raj niwas

Just a place to be seen from outside when you are driving around. Wish they would have something like whitehouse and start tourist visit to some part of the niwas.

we visited this as part of our strolling around the french quarter-- and indeed, it's a beautiful house/property. historical since it's the former governor's residence and still an official residence. lovely architecture, like many amazing houses in the french quarter. but...ok for just a quick visit.

This is where the Lt Governer of the state resides. The building has an impressive and historic facade and faces a nice, well kept garden for an leisurely stroll.

This white, attractive colonial building is fine example of Puducherry's French Heritage. It used to be former official residence of the French Governor when it was a French Territory. But now it is the office and residence of Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry. It has beautifully maintained gardens and lovely flowers. But one can only see them from outside as no one is allowed to go inside.

I do not understand why this place is listed as an attraction! It is a building, a government building, guarded by Police. That is about it! Like listing someone's private home that you can admire fro afar.

Just see from out side. The Raj Niwas, Pondicherry, excellent looking structure. White colour, beautiful gardening and flowers are there.

I do not understand why to see this place when you are not allowed to enter. Just seeing outside from the road is hopeless. We can see so many goo architecture marvels in internet , then why to go and stand on the road in-front of this building.

It's a beautiful piece of architecture, its completely white and has gardens all around it and is the most peaceful location of the city very close to the beach.

Great architecture. Old royal colonial charm revisited. It stands great white against deep blue ocean , breath taking.

Looks so beautiful and imposing its a shame you cannot get in to view this place. Well maintained and kerb appeal is impressive it stands out in the street.

Would be wonderful if certain sections of it are thrown open to the public. It can be done but some initiative has to be taken to start the process, for example even the Rashtrapati Bhavan is open to tours with prior reservations. So it can be given a thought.

Pretty building, but as we reached the gate and tried to take a look at the building, even from outside the gate we were rudely told to move away.Unless you really see the place you can't rate it. The building is a pretty looking colonial structure but that's all we could see to tell about.

Entrance not allowed for visitors. Adjacent to Bharti government part. Nice to visit and get some photos here.

You will not be allowed inside. This is the place where Governor of Pondicherry stays. You can just stand outside and click the pics. Its opposite to Bharathi park and very near to Pondicherry assembly and Meuseum
