Bayterek Tower
It is supposed to be the very heart of the city surrounded by a always taller growing buildings. As mentioned by others, the elevators are really small. In summer it is very hot in the golden ball. The view to the president's palace is good. The queue to the hand print of the president often long. I liked the changing lights in the evening until midnight.
If your a tourist in Astana. This is a must go place. It like the eiffel tower for Parisians. Not very scary, as it is not very tall.
The Baiterek Tower is located in the heart of Astana and was established in 2002. Baiterek as per Kazakh legends refers to a 'Tree of Life'. The tower also depicts the same and is 97 metres high. Atop the tower is a round structure that depicts the egg of the holy bird, Samruk. The basement has aquariums with beautiful fishes and the top of the tower has an impression of the hand of the President Nazarbayev. The top is transparent and gives a beautiful view of the city around. The Baiterek has an entry ticket but the cost is minimal and the visit is exhilarating. A must see when one visits Astana.
360 degree views of a strange and amazing city. Lots of visitors, but it didn't feel crowded. Appreciated that there were couches where you could just sit and people-watch. The highlight of our day!
We had a transit flight from Moscow to Bangkok via Astana. As far as we understood, people in Kazahstan are proud of this monument. And due to the fact that there are not so many sights in Astana, you should deffinetely visit Bayterek. It is lighted quite beautifull during dark hours and you might like the sight from the above, though the windows were a bit muddy. The monument itself is a part of a huge landscape composition that can be seen only if you fly above Astana on plane or hellicopter. You can see big part of Astana from Bayterek that is one more pros of visiting it.
One of Astana leading monument. It offers great view and perpective of the capital and its many developments.
What a mess! The tower looks interesting but the construction is poor and cheap. First, the main entrance is hidden. You walk around to find it to realize you have to go downstairs to enter. The reception hall is a combined toilet, ticket office, waiting hall and shopping arcade-good luck finding space. The elevator situation was a nightmare-two tiny elevators are not enough to deal with the crowds. As soon as the doors open people push in before allowing people to get off. If you are used go queuing, you get nowhere. You must push in and push hard. Once you get to the top, you are rewarded with a panoramic view of the city. If you want to see the golden handprint, you must queue yet again, fight off those who cut in line, and snake your way up to be pushed and shoved along in order to get a glimpse of the dictator's golden handprint. I hate to say it but Disney would have that place in shape in no time. This is not a tourist destination for Westerners.
Enjoy the great view over the city, especially over the business and presidential part.On top you can find the hand print of the current president Nazarbayev, the highlight for every patriotic Kazak. For me it's a tactical thing, just to show every visitor how rich and pompous Kazakstan is. So the tower get's four stars for the great view and minus one for ulterior motives.
One of the sites to see and this is what I did. Went in a car and left in one on my way from meeting to meeting.I would like to come back and spend a bit more of time. Get a full look and full impression
Worth the small price to go up the elevator - not a bad view. Not sure that putting my hand in the President's imprint served any purpose, though!
Short trip to Astana for business, and a weekend in Astana got me to try out local attractions. Visited Baiterek just to put a tick in a box. I have been to many high towers/places/buildings around the planet and all of them provide a nice overview of the surroundings. But I think that the whole experience should not end there. There should be more attractions and interactive activities inside the tower. Excellent for a nice view, and not that good for spending free time.
The architecture of this tower, resembling a golden egg nestled in spikes, tells a deep story in itself. the views of the gardens and yards from the top floor takes your breath away. Standing tall and proud, the Baiterek Tower is a national and town pride in Astana. In summer, tourists flock here, to sit on the square's benches and gaze and breathe in the inspiration that this tower oozes.
Most travellers should visit this novel tower. Some uninspired features but fun to watch locals enjoying themselves. As others have noted taking pictures are not optimal.
Baiterek Tower is a must see while in Astana. This owes more to the lack of other things in Astana than it's significance. You need to enter by going downstairs and purchasing a ticket to ride up the elevator. Wheelchair and stroller access are challenging but possible. Have a few beefy friends to carry loads to get up and down the entry stairs. The ticket counter can be a bit of a scrum when it just opens after breakfast, lunch, dinner and any number of breaks. If you have made it this far in Kazakhstan this should be no surprise.Once inside you will be amazed at how roomy the attraction is. Outside it seems small but inside there is plenty of room. This applies to the entry and once up in the top. There are three levels inside the globe. 1st and second are outer perimeter levels with toilets, drinks and some snacks available. The upper level is centered at the top of the globe and has the presidential hand print you can try out along with a map showing the directions to other major cities and attractions.Overall worth a visit for visitors and those living here. It took me a year before I finally went up and I'm glad I did. try going in different times of the year for a summer, winter and fall view.
