it could be seen from Fundacion Pacita and some areas of Basco Batanes.. the mountain is always kissing the clouds.
This is really for experienced mountaineers. I don't recommend this for the beginners because the trail is extremely difficult. There are climbing, rock climbing and rappelling using the roots. Actually this is not so high but the problem is the trail.
The ever majestic mountain that spawned stories how Batanes islands was form. Wherever you are in Batanes, the majestic beauty of Mt Iraya can be seen. Batan, Sabtang or even Itbayat. Best scenic view while you are in Vayang rolling hills. Batanes as a whole is beyond words to describe. Go see it for yourself!
I am always at a lost for words when reviewing all the places I've seen in Batanes. That's how beautiful, surreal, and magical they all are. I urge you to come and see Batanes for yourself. Truly a life-changing experience!
mt. iraya alone is not worth it, unless you're a trekker. but viewing this extinct volcano from the throes of fundacion pacita de abad resort, plus the rolling hills at the right side of the resort, results in a tingling effect of knowing that the view is just... perfect!!!
Also one of the peaceful places we went to. we enjoyed staying there because of the beautiful view and the peacefulness of the place. one has to watch out though because the place was slippery. will also want to go back for this.
Last day in Batanes,it is towering and ever present Mt.Iraya measuirng around 1100meters above sea level.. i am not a pro in mt.climbing, in fact this is the first mt. i climbed.. i wanted to give it a shot, i said it will be a long time before i can go back to this place.easy trek for the first say 500meters but after that it is going to be an uphill climb - trusted trainers or climbing boots a must, slippery uphill climb.wear long sleeves if you dont want cuts or itchy arms becuase of the grass, wear climbing pants too.eat you breakfast before starting the climb you need the energy.bring water in my case i climbed this mountain with a neww found friend, 4 liters was enough for the 2 of us.camera ready, mossy, fungus, mushroom forest ahead nice to take macro shots.if you are luck you might come across an endemic snake only found in Mt.iraya i was not lucky enough.tour guide price is 1,500 they cna carry the water and you pack lunch with you please dont leave your trash in the trail..bring it back down and dispose of it properly.you can do overnight stayin the summit just let the tourism office know and the guide know.prepare to get blown away when you are in the summit, you get to see the whole side of batanes including Itbayat - that is if the clouds let up.. in my case i have seen Itbayat from the summit, the back side of Batanes pacific ocean and the little runway that allowed me to visit the Ireleand of the Philippines.tip.if going up is a battle, going down is 2x as much have fun while slipping and sliding just be careful not to twist your Ankle.secure you cameras ask you guide if you can stop and have some cocnut on your way home.don't miss out on those Japanese tunnels along the way, some are ruined already, take a peep...
Mt Iraya is pretty much seen from a lot of places in Batan Island, Batanes. Most of the time, it's covered by the clouds, so you are considered lucky if you get a clear view of the entire mountain :-) Some people would hike around the area, but we didn't.
This Mountain, greets all visitors to Batanes....it's grand in stature, but welcoming in a very beautiful, island way...
