masao beach

People around Butuan know where to go for a weekend beach visit that is not too far away and is a great place to bring food and drinks and hang out with the kids. Right near the Magellan landing site monument, in Barangay Masao, there is a long brown sand beach lined with rest houses for rent from 100-300 pesos where you can hang out, eat and drink, and go swimming when the mood strikes you. There are also some pumpboats available for rent as well as inner tubes. A small market near by provides grilled fish and drinks. The beach was clean and well kept the day I visited. On the way to Masao, you can stop by local stands along the road and purchase oysters or clams for practically nothing. To get there, going toward the airport from Butuan City, turn left at Libertad market and follow the signs.
