Very interesting. Learned a lot about Cuba that I did not know before. Geat family excursion. Nice to learn about other places when you visit. Always try to get off resort to learn more about the place I'm at.
The title says it all. However if you like stale stuffed specimins suited for a 1930's crocodile of infant school kids to be dragged around to give 'Miss' an easy morning and an opportunity to exercise firm control ... this is the Heart of Darkness or Apocalypse Now for you.
Located in Central Holguin it is easy and cheap to visit 3cuc pp.Shows a range of specimens of Cuban natural history.Staff friendly and helpful
Love going to Hoguin and the churches were beautiful and the people are so friendly I did some shopping and had lunch. I will go back to the city again as their is so much to see and I did not have time to go to other places
Last time I visited this place was back in 2007, but I remember every little detail. My favorite museum in town, they practically have a bit of everything..I love the rocks and butterflies collections. In from of it there are some good restaurants ..small businesses, but great food.
So I grew up in Holguin and I will to share a little bit of background info on this Museum. Back in the day (1930's-1950's) this building was known as "El Liceo". It was kinda of a members only social club in Holguin. I know because my Grandfather used to be a Doctor in Holguin and I hear many stories from my Grandmother about how this was the place to go socialize with friends, eat and dance. Today is a museum and growing up I used to go there on school trips. I though it was interesting at the time. Sure there are much better museum's but the entrance is dirt cheap and is worth a visit. Last time I visited it was in 1996 btw.
There they were, the famous coloured snail shells. We met some locals in the Sierra Cristal trying to sell us this forbidden souvenir. But here we saw that what they presented there was fake. The real ones are far more delicate each with a unique print. Besides stuffed animals from all over the world many native species, we especially also liked the vast collection of butterflies. The ladies of the museum were kindly willing to explain which species were Cuban, still living and wich extinct. So if you missed much of Cuba's splendid nature, don't miss this museum.
erm..loads of bottles of dead animals and a large collection of snails - Stuffed animals galore but little information to support the exhibits - the toilets were dreadful.
One large room with displays of the indigenous plants, animals, etc. Closes for an hour at noon. (entrance fee of 2 pesos and 5 more if you want to take a picture.)
o museu é um lugar onde toda pessoa que chega a este país deveria visitar, tem bastante atrativa para todos os gostos, lugar de acesso facil
