We went to the Tropicana as highly recmmende by our Cruise company. I have to say we were sadly disappointed . It felt 'tired' and not very exciting. The dancers looked bored with their routines and the costumes rather faded at times. The dancers did not seem happy and failed to get the audience 'going' .The audience semed to be exclusively from cruise ships with no locals . The waiter was rushed off his feet and understandably not very happy. We got a bottle or Rum each!! - plus coke or lemonade and a big bucket of ice as our drinks . The snack was a plate of unappetisng cold meats. Having been to the clubs in Rio I felt this was rather second rate.
Santiago de Cuba was a fun. It wasn't as busy as some of the other parts of Cuba. I would love to go back there. One tip is don't walk around the city without wearing a shirt. You can read more about my trip on newimprovedlife.com http://newimprovedlife.com/2015/01/15/travels/
it's a night club with locals and tourists together! you get a table of your own or share with friends and it's a 2 hr extravaganza like you've never seen in your life! i went in varadero and this one's carribean style. free bottle of rum if you go with sunwing on the sat night excursion! for the young ones who love broadway shows and music and hot DJ dancing this is YOUR event not to miss! Only get ONE chance to go ask Barbaro*
The Santiago Tropicana is known for two separate things: one is the Santiago version of the cabaret night club act featuring the traditional scantily clad dancers, etc. This takes place in the large open air amphitheater. The other feature is the discotheque that is also located in the same complex, in a smaller, separate enclosed space. Some of the hotels arrange to take groups to the cabaret show via pre-arranged bus, which makes for relatively expensive night out. It is possible to go there on you own, which may be of interest, esp. if you want to check out the disco. The entire complex is located on grounds just outside of the city, to the south east of the cloverleaf where the auto-pista meets the circunvalacion to the airport (and Cuidamar/castilo del moro). The highway signs point it out . The disco opens late (10:00 or 11:00ish). Here you find the members of local young hip Cuban crowd. On certain nights it can get packed and on others it can be dead..A logistical issue is how to get here and then home to where you are staying, in view that there may not be cabs waiting there to take you back. One idea is to make a deal with taxi particular driver to take you out there, drop you off, then come back to pick you up at a pre-arranged time. Do not carry a lot of cash and be prepared for pick-pocket attempts.
it's a nice disco with many cubans and a few tourists.it's 10 CUC and you get 3 drinks included. you have disco music (sometimes salsa too, I've been told) and it's fun.it has both a dance floor and a balcony where to breathe once every while.
