Nice dive boat, top shape equipment and very attentive staff, two dives for $65, good value. Nice dive sites, nothing spectacular but quite enjoyable and 15m depth max.
We went for a two-tank dive trip off the coast by boat and had a great time. The equipment, yacht, and staff, were all excellent. Only disappointed to find out that there marine life and corals weren't as bountiful as we imagined. Give it a try, but don't book your trip based plans to dive around Cayo Las Brujas/Santa Maria.
Highlights: lots of swims, a bit more with animal encounters than I expected (for Cuba) as this area is protected from fishing. Came across Stingray, nurse shark, large snapper, groupers, lobsters... less than other world destinations but pretty good for Cuba. All dives were fairly shallow and easy. Dive operation is super safe. They have almost new gear, don't need to bring your own if you don't want to pack in luggage. They also pick you up from your hotel. Here's two dive videos from July 2014 with these guyshttp://youtu.be/cxaOSz_MFkEhttp://youtu.be/r_rP6L026ew
Last year we were at the HUSA now called the Starfish in Cayo Santa Maria for Christmas in December 2013 and we did the Catamaran excursion. It was such a wonderful time. We are are going to be in Cuba again for Christmas and am so looking forward to the Catamaran excursion once again and get my kiss from the handsome dolphin. It was a fabulous day and hoping the weather will be the same this year. If anyone is going to be there from the December 19th on maybe we will cross paths. Have a safe and happy trip. I know I will. Thanks to our captain (sorry forget his name) who entertained us and made our day so enjoyable! Hoping to get on the same Catamaran again this year.
we took a day sail, on a 80 foot catamaran FELIX love you FREDDY & CREW for making our day memorable...fun, relaxing... andloved the snorkling, and all the stops... ;)
Positive: Lots of wildlife to see. Negative: Not very professional service. Boat couldn't go out one day but didn't tell anyone. Left us waiting at the lobby for 2 hours.
Good dives here for novices- they have new equipment and they are quite safety conscious and babysit. None of the dives are deep- we did 18m and then 9M dives, but they are certainly fun if you want a break from the beach and just want to get underwater for a day or two of diving. Saw morays, a stingray, large grouper and barracuda and plenty of the common reef dwellers. However for serious divers I would not recommend Santa Maria as a dive destination. They told me that they do not dive deep and from what I understood typically not past 20M.It is 55CUC for two tanks if you have your own equipment 65CUC to use there’s. They do not have dive packages- you have to pay daily and they only dive when they have enough people. So if yo're looking for daily diving you will probably be SOL. For diving specific vacations in or near the Cayos go to Cayo Coco, or better yet to Santa Lucia- you will be able to dive daily here and 30M+ dives are the norm. Hopefully one day in this area they will offer better diving opportunities as I'm sure there are some better and deeper dive sites nearby.
Professionnal crew and dive master. Reef is nice.Water really warmQuite cheap ($65 for 2 dives)Not good as Roatan
Awesome value, unbeatable price, fun experience. The boating part is great, all the mangrove canals, the sunken boat from WWII. then the snorkeling is beautiful, lots of red snapper and other reef species right next to you on a very quiet environment. Excursion staff is great, they are fun and very professionals.
I as there. Lots of workers NOT working.Even if you book your excursion with your travel people they might have to cancel it.Anyway the ones I did were fun.Workers at the Marina barely speak english.Different offices, very confusing to get correct information.Unless you have an excursion booked and comfirmed, or you have to go to the bank. Nothing to do there.
These folks were amazing and they gave me a wonderful diving experience. When we arrived they split the experienced divers from the novices. This allowed much more attention to be given to those who needed it. I loved the fact that they took a ladies first approach and ensured that the women on the dive were well taken care of, from ensuring our equipment was properly to actually carrying our gear on board. They helped each diver get ready and were there to help us all when we surfaced.
Great fun, Great snorkeling and a delicious lunch!! Worth the CUC$99!! Open bar included on board as well... fun in the sun!!
The scuba diving in this area of Cuba is good, but not great. The dive master are very safe and tried their best to make sure everyone enjoyed themselves. I brought my own gear with me to Cuba not knowing what condition there equipment would be but as it turns out its not half bad. Newer Scuba Pro reg's and BCD's. I was only able to go on three days of diving due to bookings. They have two boats which hold 16 people and on the days I went we only have 12 so there was always room. The visibility on the dives wasn't that great, maybe 40ft and don't expect to stay down long. We max each dive at about 45 mins, even though allot of us on the dive still had half a tank. The max depth was only 40-50 ft as well which I believe is their norm as well. All in all I was happy to dive, better then lying on the beach all day. The fish life is sparse as well and there were only a few large groupers the rest of the fish life was small and limited. The correl is ok, but no were near as colorful as other parts of the Caribbean.
Took our 5.5 year old daughter on the Catamaran tour through the Centre de plongee and we highly recommend it. We didn't participate in the snorkelling portion (my daughter and I) because I felt it was too wavy and "unsafe" when neither of us has snorkelling experience, but my husband participated and said it was fantastic - saw several types of fish and many snorkelers also saw a Barracuda. Amazing! We spent this time "sun tanning" and sight-seeing from the boat. The dolphin portion was fantastic. Not a huge fan of animal captivity, but was highly impressed with the dolphinarium itself, and we loved every second of the meet and greet with the dolphin - probably the only time we'll ever experience this type of thing. Food at the dolphinarium was fantastic and they were extremely attentive to my daughter (brought her extra french fries). The private beach they take you to is worth the money you pay ALONE - we LOVED this portion of the trip. Wish we had more time there. Saw several star fish and other wild life. Amazing. Highly recommend this trip to anyone!
Truly a great attraction for all on a 75 foot catamaran with open bar ,friendly crew, beautiful beaches, snorkeling, lunch , swimming with the dolphins...for sure worth the money. a must if visiting.
