st. mary's cathedral of the assumption

We wanted very much to see both the outside and inside of this unusual looking church. We were able to view the outside, but though we went back on two different days it was not open to visitors. We peeked through the gates and were able to see a lovely courtyard and beautiful statue of Mary, but that was the only glimpse we had of the inside. Very disappointing after having read about it and having planned to see it as a part of our St Vincent tours. They really should consider being more accessible as is St. George's Carhedral next door.

This small cathedral was so restful. It has a small courtyard at the front and a lovely quiet garden at the back overlooking a small river. The interior is a contrast to the outside, being very modern looking, decorated in cool colours. Unfortunately be prepared to run the guantlet over beggars as you enter.

Unusual architecture to say the least, with a small but beautiful courtyard just inside the entrance. You are likely to be 'approached' by 'unofficial' guides requesting a contribution - this is a poor country, and a few EC$ you can afford....

St. Mary's cathedral, this awesome building stands out in the middle of Kingstown look up and you could be in Rome. Seems out of place here making it all the more attractive.

This is a magnificent building. It looks as majestic and breathtaking as any church in Rome. We were lucky enough to be godparents to a special little baby who was baptized there. Just a beautiful peaceful place to be.

Small and a bit of an architectural mix, but a lovely short visit. The exterior is interesting if a little hard to appreciate from the street giving access (too close). Inside, apart from the Cathedral itself, there are dleightful little corners and courtyards to while away a little time.

The Cathedral of St. Mary's is a historic church with a variety of archtecture. To truly do it justic, you need to go inside the courtyard as well as the church itself. People may be disappointed if the are used to European or US Cathedrals, but remember, this is the Caribbean and it is a magnificent sturcture looking at other churches in this area. A must see.

The Cathedral was ridiculous. It looked so silly.
