Beautiful gardens .. worth getting a guide ... Errol was knowledgeable and friendly. Really enjoyed it
We visited under our own steam catching the local bus from our resort which was an experience in its own right, however, it stops right outside the gardens so very convenient and only $3EC per journey. The gardens charge a small entrance fee and you are encouraged to have a guide. Well worth it - this made what would have been a mundane visit for us non gardeners very interesting indeed. He shared his knowledge with us and we saw beautiful flowers and tasted many interesting fruits and spices. Due to tropical rain our visit ran into a second hour so we did pay more, however, still very good value for money and a fraction of the cost of an organised excursion. You can get the bus back or walk down to Kingstown and catch one there after a look around.
We decided to have a guide. Definitely worth it as not much is labelled and so without a guide you would not really know what your looking at most of the time. He was full of interesting facts about the plants and trees and their uses. A beautiful site with lots to see including the native parrot.
We took a group of Grade 1 children for an educational visit. Our welcome was warm and friendly. The guide Erroll was superb. He explained the history of the gardens, and told us about different plants and trees. He pitched his talk at exactly the right level for the children. We bought our plants to take for the school garden but it was wonderful to be given extra ones. This was to celebrate the 250 year anniversary of the gardens. Thank you all staff for a wonderful day. Rose Hall Government School.
I like the service the cleanliness , i like the flowers the different types i like the atmosphere i just like the quite area where you can walk and relax you mind .
We were amazed at the variety of exotic plants found in such a small area. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable of the plants and their histories. A lovely wedding venue.
many trees and flowers, and a wonderful guide...he new the plants and their proper botanical names and was a delight.
We came here as part of an island tour and enjoyed a most interesting explanation of the various plants and trees. Particularly liked the aviary, which is well stocked with lots of local species. Nice gift shop on the way out.
Kingstown is quite small and easy to navigate but it is a walk to the gardens. You can pass an hour or so here and shade from the sun,
Spacious botanical gardens just outside the capital Kingstown. Hire a guide to show you around to discover more about the trees and plants. Also see the national bird of the island, the St Vincent Amazon parrot.
We enjoyed our visit to the gardens, it was a nice misty day and our tour guide was very knowledgeable.
What a beautiful place - these Gardens are the oldest botanical gardens in the western hemisphere and are beautifully maintained by folks who know what they're doing. A descendant of an original breadfuit tree brought by Captain William Bligh (of Mutiny on the Bounty notoriety) from the South Pacific was still happily living there for the recent 250th birthday party. The Gardens lie on the outskirts of town - they are not huge in size, and you should not expect the "amusements" or facilities that, these days, many folks might expect to be able to access in other countries (bars, restaurants, other so-called attractions). But for those who really appreciate nature at its finest, to the accompaniment of highly professional guides and botanist-gardeners (who can even throw in a bit of Latin from time to time), this must be one of the high spots of St Vincent, in addition to being an oasis of tranquillity that allow one to escape the heat and chaos of Kingstown on a busy day.
This gardens is unique in that at the most nothern end is the Government house where the governor General performs official duties. Also towards the northern end is a sucker of the original breadfruit tree brought by Captain Bligh as part of cheap food for the slaves. The lawns are beautifully manicured and there is a small museum that houses some of the indiginous parrots.
Guide took us around showed us varying flowers, children loved it. Did not satisfy the $175 it cost for us to go there with a private driver
Well maintained by a large labour force keeping it all tidy and collecting fallen leaves.Lots of species, well named with humming birds if you are lucky. Old established botanical gardens just a short trip out of town. This is a very poor island so be prepared to see third world scenes as you move about, the people do seem very appreciative ofthe dollars spent there as they depend on it to live.
