Yes, you have to pay expensive tolls , but the road is excelent. Is worth it every penny. No traffic, beautiful veiws and short. The directions signs outside to this road are ok, but going in and out are really bad. Taking the road from the airport ion and out s a nightmare.

This very short (maybe 7-8 miles) toll road from near the Catey airport to Las Terrenas costs almost $1.50 PER MILE! Instead take the regular road toward Sanchez and turn off at sign for Las Terrenas. This bway takes maybe 10 or so more minutes that the toll one.

Rather expensive but magnificent scenically and cuts the journey to Las Terrenas substantially. It has improved communications enormously.

Even though the tour books say us and euro are widely accepted. they are not at the tool booths. If you don't have pesos they will not let you through. period

I traveled this road several times during December and January 14/15 and have very positive feedback about it. Others say it's too expensive, they haven't driven the toll from Denver airport to Boulder, CO. Or the 80/90 from South Bend, IN to O'Hare airport. Almost the same fares. And this road is higher quality than you will find anywhere in the state of Michigan, USA. Take if from Santo Domingo's airport all the way to the T-split to either Nagua heading West or Samana heading East. And even for hours either way, it is wonderful. Just don't fall off the edges, you may fall into the Atlantic Ocean after Nagua or into Samana Bay. Definitely worth the sightseeing tour all the way.

The most expensive I've seen anywhere in the world and I've been around. However, the danger of the alternative route combined with dangerous Dominican drivers, leaves you very little alternative...

Big improvement from previous road to get to Samana years ago. The tolls from Santo Domingo to Las Terrenas added almost to $25. Nice views along the way.

I now use the toll road whenever I visit the north coast of Samana. The road is being maintained pretty well and every 20 miles or so you will find a new service truck there for your service or to help you. One thing I didn't like is that the prices posted at the toll booths, was not what they charged me!! I protested but they ignored me. The receipts do not have prices on them.

Good road, very expensive though. You will go up and down mountains. It is a beautiful trip and worth not taking the longer road that really isn't for the inexperienced driver.

toll fee of 500+ pesos (about $12 us)... the onsite military type people would not take american dollars as I had run out of pesos going thru the gauntlet of toll booths on the way to samana from sdq ... however they quickly decided that if I gave them $20 american they would let me thru ... I have been to the DR many a time and what I have learned is that the vast majority of Dominicans are beggars, liars and thieves to say the least ... travel a little further East and take the old road to the North coast of the Samana Peninsula ... no tolls (yet) and a more scenic old road (be careful) don't drive it at night ... daytime only ... Good Luck !

Viajas pronto pero debes pagar peajes muy caros. Hay vistas muy bonitas. Hay que seguir las reglas de los límites de velocidad en la zona resbaladizas. You can travel fast but must pay high feed. There are beautiful view. You had to follow the speed limit rule.

We rented a car to take to road from Las Americas Airport to Samana, and although I was a little scared about it; it ended up being a lot better than what I expected.

We took the toll road leaving las terrenas, great road, some nice viewing areas on the way,was no traffic, road was in excellent condition, was 510.00 Pecos some where in that price range.

I have taken the road through San Francisco de Macoris... though the tolls are way too expensive for the Samana Toll Road from the Capital (Santo Domingo) it is well worth it in comparison. Just please, be careful of the 80MPH speed traps in the long stretch sections!!
