The remnants of the plantation buildings make a nice backdrop for the plantings, and the museum was interesting. However, as we proceeded farther along the self-guided tour, the signage and upkeep dwindled to a bare minimum, to the point where we said "don't need to see any more." Of course, in February there is less going on with blooms and fruit, but we felt the property looked a little seedy and overgrown. We enjoyed touring for the first hour though.
Beautiful setting for a wedding. Had an afternoon stroll to get familiar with many varied plants , trees and orchids!
If you have the time and love to look at vegetation, beautiful tropical flowers and the remains of old buildings, definitely put this stop on your calendar. Loved it.
It is well laid out and easy self-guided tour with both a history buffs and gardeners perspective. We went back to the gift shop a day later as we saw similar art elsewhere but not as nice. Prices were better too and they support local artists.
A jewel of a garden amongst ruins of a plantation. Plenty of photo opportunities. Gives you a taste of what life must have been like. Also a nice little museum shop.
St George Village Botsanical Garden is an interesting mix of a beautiful Caribbean Botanical Garden set inside the backdrop of a colonial plantation ruin. Botanical specimens from every continent (except Anarctica) take one into an era gone-by with enough historical significance to be an interesting afternoon for about everyone. The Botanical Garden has been supported for years by volunteers that helped maintain the grounds and care for the property. As the economy and the islands largest employer have recently shutdown, the property continues to thrill it's visitors if allowance is made for less volunteers than previous years. This is a beautiful location - give it a look while in St Croix.
I really liked visiting this old plantation as part of a Royal Caribbean International tour offering because the tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and engaged in botany. Her love of the flora was evident. We smelled medicinal leaves. We looked inside an abandoned structure that now serves as a bat house. Bats help to keep the bug population down.Ruins were abound too.
We love Botanical Gardens, and if you don't, this might not be your thing. Take bug spray and water. We esp. enjoyed the ruins, historical areas, palm gardens, healing plants gardens, and useful plants gardens.
We enjoyed strolling around this garden. The maps were easy to follow and the grounds were beautiful. Several ruins to visit. Many different flowers, fruit trees, cacti, etc. I would recommend this activity.
The garden was very beautiful and we were able to go on our own and check out the garden. We were given a map, and wandered around. It was awesome!
These Botanical Gardens are not to be missed while in St. Croix. I have toured them twice. They have numerous unusual plants plus structures left from the past in a large, wonderful setting that is very enjoyable to stroll through. The gift shop is worth a stop on the way out.
This place has some very interesting history, and the self-guided tour map is helpful. There are also lots of signs posts for more information.
My wife and I thought the gardens were a worthwhile use of our time. Although not really very extensive, the gardens do contain a remarkable variety of plant life. We toured the area in a little more than an hour but more time could have been spent if we had gotten there earlier. We have been told that it may not be an activity for the summer months but couldn't speak to that from experience.
We had a nice time visiting the well-kept botanical gardens. Beautiful flowers and grounds. The self-guided tour brochure was informative and easy to follow.
The staff, especially Denise in the Gift Shop, provide great information on the garden and about St Croix. Beautiful spot. Great place to leisurely walk and enjoy the garden and visualize the way it must have been in it's hay-day. According to St Croix standards, those doing the renovations have done an excellent job. As a side note, restrooms are clearly marked and convenient. There are a few few snacks, but food is not available. So if you go around lunch time, take a picnic.
