Went here for the first time to try classic cross country skiing. No instructors or lessons available during the weekdays. We learned on our own and it was not busy at all on the trails so it was fairly easy to practice without worrying about bumping into people. The groomed trails made it very easy to learn.
Came here with my mom for mother's day. It was beautfiful. Definitely should wear comfortable shoes for hiking/climbing.
Thank you for remembering to share your family experience from last spring. Exploring the caves, caverns and crevasses brings out the kid in all of us! There are so many lookout points and interesting cave locations…a camera (or cell phone camera) is a must for capturing memories. We love to receive photos via Facebook, Twitter or by sending us an email: info@sceniccaves.com.
Thanks Rick, for reviewing Scenic Caves summer activities you experienced last summer. Some of the caves are definitely ‘cool’, like the famous ‘Refrigerator Cave’. During the busiest summer months during the mid-day hours, sometimes there are short line-ups for the most popular caves, but guests generally move right along. Good hiking boots/running shoes are required since there is a fair amount of walking through the nature trails, down into the caves/caverns and over to the Suspension Bridge. The Thunderbird Twin Zip is an amazing half-mile ride from the top of the Niagara Escarpment down the valley. Green season activities open again in May and run until October.
Thank you for sharing your exuberance regarding the Thunderbird Twin Zip Line. We don’t lay claim to being the ‘largest’ in the world. The Thunderbird is the longest ‘twin’ zip in Canada – a half mile of thrill as you ride side-by-side with a friend. What is also unique is that each rider can control their own ride speed. We’re delighted that you also enjoyed our Eco Adventure tour which led you high up into the treetop canopy and then down through the caves/caverns carved millions of years ago by glacial ice. A distinctive taste of Canadian ecology, history and geography!
Thank you for visiting during the winter and recommending our Nordic Centre as a ‘great place’ . The property is set on 400 acres high atop the Niagara Escarpment, so the views are outstanding and the terrain does offer many gradual ups and downs. In addition to the nordic ski trails, there are 10 km. of dedicated snowshoe trails to explore, one of which crosses the 420 ft. suspension bridge with its 10,000 sq. km. panoramic views of south Georgian Bay. In the summer, general park admission allows you to walk to the suspension bridge and the natural trails through the caves/caverns, as well as enjoy the variety of additional green season activities.
Thank you Clive for your five star rating! We’re honoured to earn your praise as a ‘customer for life’. Our entire team prides itself on providing the finest customer service welcoming environment and quality rental equipment. The trails wind through a 200 year old forest of mature hardwood, offering 27 km. of cross-country ski and 10 km. of dedicated snowshoe trails to choose from. As your family discovered, you quickly feel ‘at one with nature’. We hope you plan a return trip this summer to explore the variety of green season adventures we offer such as: caves/caverns, suspension bridge, gemstone mining, mini golf, tractor/train rides and more!
Thank you for sharing your enthusiasm regarding our snowshoe trails. With 10 km. to choose from, there is a trail for every ability level, just waiting to be explored. Guests rave about the snowshoe trail which crosses the 420 ft. suspension bridge, where you can see 10,000 sq. km. of south Georgian Bay on a clear day. There are several additional amazing lookouts points: Lookout Trail (beside the Thunderbird Twin Zip Line which only operates in the green season) and the newest Ridge Top view. The Escarpment elevations provide a great workout and we appreciate you sharing your suggestions of packing water and an energy snack. Come back in the summer to compare how much the views change seasonally.
Thrilled to know we are your favourite place for snowshoeing in Ontario. Scenic Caves Nordic is proud to have been ranked one of the top ten snowshoe destinations in North America by Snowshoe Magazine! We appreciate your comments on affordability and special features. Glad you like the Ironman trail –it’s one of our favourites because of the terrain. Your suggestions regarding layering clothing, bringing hot beverages and snacks and protecting electronic devices are excellent. Advance preparation always makes the adventure more pleasurable. Did you know that we offer a three-pass discount which can be used for either cross-country skiing or snowshoeing? C’mon back this winter!
Great is our favourite word! The rental equipment is switched up every couple of years, providing guests with the newest and most comfortable equipment. There are in fact 27 km. of cross-country ski trails, and 10 km. of snowshoe trails. We appreciate your comments on getting lost. We’ll review the cross road maps for “you are here” stickers which should be on every map (may have fallen off due to the cold?). Thank you for your endorsement of the Nordic Centre. Come back soon!
Thank you for appreciating all the qualities which make Scenic Caves Nature Adventures unique: the caves, history, geology, nature trails, ziplining and view from the suspension bridge. A return visit is the greatest recommendation! Don’t wait till next summer – why not visit during the winter? We offer 27 km. of cross-country skiing and 10 km. of snowshoe trails, one of which crosses the suspension bridge. Guided night snowshoe hikes are led on Saturday nights. Equipment rentals are available and you can warm up by the roaring fire in our chalet.
We’re so pleased your family had so much fun that you’re planning a return visit next summer. The caves/caverns/crevasses are closed during the winter/nordic season – they reopen in May until the end of October. If you enjoyed the stunning view from the Suspension Bridge, the Thunderbird Twin Zip Line experience will really take your breath away. For a birds-eye view of nature, may we suggest you consider the Eco Adventure Tour which guides you high up into the treetop canopy? Or, in the winter, strap on cross-country skis or snowshoes and explore the 200 year old forest which is teeming with wildlife. What an incredible end-of-season eco adventure! Thank you for selecting Scenic Caves for your birthday party event. Congratulations to the senior member of the family for participating – she is a real trouper! The Eco Adventure Tours are scheduled during the spring, summer and fall for safety reasons, but also for the comfort of our guests. Our staff is enthusiastic at all times because they also love the location and interacting with such appreciative visitors like your family. If you LOVED our activities in November, you’ll have an even more enjoyable experience in more temperate weather when you return to fly down the Thunderbird Twin Zip. Your fun-loving family might also like to reserve a guided night snowshoe during the winter. Thanks for taking the time to share your excitement.
Thank you for favouring our attraction as an active, fun destination. The trails through the caves and caverns do involve walking up and down stairs (which have handrails), around boulders and rocky terrain. It is not advisable for elderly folks who use walkers/canes or those with heart conditions. The property is an adventure wonderland which also offers: hike to a 420 ft. suspension bridge with breathtaking views, guided treetop canopy walking, ziplining, mini-golf, children’s adventure playground, trout pond, Rocky the train and more!
Thank you for venturing to the south Georgian Bay region to visit. We agree – our scenic property is picturesque. Because we have visitors from so many parts of the world who may not be familiar with the poison ivy plant we post warning signs. This common native ground cover grows throughout Ontario woodlands. It’s a bit more easily identified in the autumn when the characteristic three leaf cluster turns a red colour. These plants are located well off the trails and we request guests stay on the well-marked paths to respect our biosphere reserve. Young and old enjoy the mini-putt course – thanks for mentioning it.
