It's community theatre, Saturday night it was packed for "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" and it came off without a hitch. Sure the cast is a little uneven but they are doing it for the love of performing and it is still is fun. Smiling just remembering last night. Parking is an issue, Cookstown isn't particularly well lit on a dark & stormy night. Either get there early and park up the hill or try Hwy 27 for an easy exit. If you can think of it, bring a cushion, the seats are theatre seats but solid wood and made for a slimmer version of me.

Love this place, very quaint Theater in the middle of town. We try to support this Theater as often as possible. They have some pretty good shows, with at least one comedy in the past few years.

South Simcoe Theatre is a wonderful place to see community plays. It is the original Town Hall in Cookstown and very old. It takes you back in time as soon as you enter the halls. If you have never been, a good time to visit is Wing Ding weekend when they have "Four Play" it is 4 short plays a good way to get a taste of the theatre! On the Saturday of Wing Ding they also have Strawberry Shortcake and a tea room. The people at the theatre are just the nicest people you would ever want to meet! I hope that they continue for a very long time

My significant other surprised me with tickets to the last showing of Dracula at the South Simcoe Theatre. I loved the small theatre and how it allowed for the actor's to interact with the crowd, including us to jump from our seats! The production was very well done and would loved to have been able to see it a second time! Treats at this theatre during intermission are fresh and homemade, with proceeds benefiting the theatre. I would recommend the South Simcoe Theatre to anyone who has an interest in the arts.

I guess I can't say all that much as its not like the big theatres in Toronto and because of that I cannot give it 5 out of 5, although I would like to.The Theatre is a small theatre that sits about 200. Its very inexpensive if you like community theatre. Good value for the budget conscious.The people that run it, run it in that old fashioned welcomed way of a bi-gone era. They are all volunteers.Most of the snacks are home-made or made right at the theatre.The performances span the whole spectrum of what theatre can offer and I would urge anyone and everyone to see a performance.
