great wines. Not many under $20 but very good. Today had a tasting of 4 different sparkling wines which I have never done before. Loved it as there really is a big difference in each style. Best feature is the view andPicture perfect building.
Very elegant well manicured property and building presentation. Sampled some very goods wines( bought a couple( Pinot Noir and Merlot)). Very good sales staff as well.
As we traveled from Niagara Falls back up to Shanty Bay, Ontario, I have to admit we were intrigued by the name. It was definitely worth stopping. While the majority of there wine was of the red variety, they had a great white wine entitled Revenge White. It proved to be to our liking. Ashley was a very personable and knowledgeable hostess who made our visit an enjoyable experience. Once again there was a nominal tasting fee that was forgiven (couldn't help but use the term considering the name of the winery) upon the purchase of a bottle of wine. It is definitely worth the stop.
Angel's Gate was our second stop on a one day, seven winery, self guided tour. In every winery we stopped at (2 of us) we shared the samples and always bought at least one bottle of our favourite tasting at that vineyard. Angel's was the only one that charged a tasting fee of the bunch of them. Not a big deal, but...Angel's is a beautiful place. That grounds, the tasting room, the dining room... all are awesome. When we walked in and meandered over to the tasting area, we pretty much had to guide our own way through the wines. The host didn't seem all that interested in providing insight, advise, direction... not much of anything. We chose our "flight", liked the Angel's III (a Cab Sauv, Malbec, Petit Verdoc blend), and purchased a bottle. Not like it's a bad place... we just dealt with so much better on the day. I wouldn't make a special trip to go back.
Some really great reds to be had here! I decided not to taste the gammay simply because I'm not a fan of light red's and I was wrong, the Grammy was excellent! Some very big reds to have here! Well priced and fantastic wines.
Visited this winery last on a day full of winery visits and it was one of the best experiences of the day. Not only do they have some wonderful wines - many of my favourites AND I get to taste some new ones - but the grounds and view are beautiful and feature a pond with turtles… there is a sign to politely ask you to keep the noise down as the turtles might be sleeping… shhhhh. One the day we visited the bridge in Burlington was closed. The staff actually DREW us a map and helped us navigate a way around the mess to get home to Toronto again. Great wine great people - great experience to end the day. Please don't visit Niagara or Beamsville for the wineries without stopping in here.
We went with friends for lunch and the winery and view is wonderful but if you're going to eat - be warned.First I had the chicken fingers for $26 - They were frozen chicken fingers from M&M..rolled in coconut. No taste. My wife had their lobster burger and she swore it was comprised of imitation lobster - didn't have any taste. For dessert, my wife asked for just ice cream as the berries were "marinated in wine"....there were ice crystals in the ice cream..so either it was old or a cheap product. At $8 you'd think it would have been a premium brand...no it wasn't.I would go for the wine tasting and the view...as for food,,a A&W would have been better and a lot cheaper!
Looked forward to lunch here July 17th after reading reviews but food did not impress. Ordered the Homage to Quebec tasting plate. The plate was certainly not as plentiful as the website photo! Only received 4 slices of duck, 2 of which were mostly fat & 1 lonely scallop. Each item on the plate was paired with 2 oz of wine which were all good but felt there should have been a bit more food to balance. Otherwise the patio & view are great on a nice day, service good. Tip: when reserving ask for upper deck to enjoy the view.
Joined some friends for a Sunday lunch at Angels Gate. Wonderful food and wine pairing for $26 (4 x 2 oz wine plus 4 tapas style foods). Very tasty, service was excellent and we enjoyed the patio and scenery. Like the wine so much we joined the wine club. Highly recommend a visit. Tasting room is large and bright.
Angels Gate was a nice stop for a wine tasting. They did not participate in the Ice Wine Festival but we stopped in for a tasting because we really enjoy the winery and the wines. They offer a wide selection of very good wines. Check the wine trail map for other wineries which are very close to Angels Gate.
The Mountainview Sauvignon Blanc 2011 is one of the double gold award winners here. Angel's Gate has wines that are produced in large enough quantities to be sold at the LCBO (Ontario's government run monopoly that controls all wine and liquor sales), as well as other great choices only found here. The tasting room is not as charming as some, but the wines are legit. If you are not familiar with this wine region, be sure to find what you like by tasting. The larger wineries often try to produce a wide variety of wines, even in years when the weather doesn't really allow it. You can find some great reds in this region, but there are some stinkers as well. (The best wineries will refrain from making a cab sauv after a cool, wet summer, for example).Locals say that 2007, 2010, and 2011 were the best years.
It is always a bonus to visit a winery where they are knowledgeable about their products and the local wine industry. We had a very good experience here, and in hindsite wished we had planned our visit better so that we could have taken advantage of the patio and the view. Oh well, it just means another trip back!
They have a very pretty location here. wines are a fair price, everyone was friendly. nice place to sit outside & enjoy a glass of wine- they even have a little bistro! Tasting fees are waved with purchase of a bottle.
A lot of vineyards have good food or good wine or good service, trying to find one with it all is tough. We found it. The staff is extremely friendly and knowledgable about the wine. The view from the pario is great, your quite a bit above the fields and can see the lake and Toronto in the distance, it's beautiful. The wines at Angels Gate are both great and VERY reasonably priced. Well worth the visit. Check out Rosewood next door while your there.
Great views, very knowledgeable and friendly customer service during our tasting. Our tasting fee was waived with the purchase of our bottle of wine. Nice touch.
