Very interesting to see glad the preserved some of the artifacts. My grandfather worked in the mill as a Forman. So much history!
Incredible bargain at $5 per person. The volunteer working the gift shop was very helpful telling us about the Rosamund family (of Almonte and Memphis).
Nice to see mill history in this historic villageNice Japanese textile exhibitionLoved seeing and buildingGreat stop and very worthwhile Thanks
There is currently an exhibit of Japanese fabrics in the main level. There is a book available to learn a bit about them. For a total novice at fabric, there should be more information. The second floor has equipment and stories about the wool industry in Almonte. The multiple televisions have looping explanations of the various stages from sheep sheep to the final fabric. We figured out that the volume controls were all off, but we could adjust each one manually. The staff was knowledgeable. The lady in reception and the gift shop enjoyed explaining the mill's history.
This is a small well cared museum provided a good profile of the daily work at the mill during it's operations. We had the opportunity to view an exhibit of file quality textiles from Japan. On display were the original textile mill equipment in use during its operation. We enjoy the experience
The museum has a great collection of attractions from the old mill town of Almonte. Much of the material on display carries you back to the past. Almonte was a major producer of textiles in the 19th century and the local history is well displayed on its floors. They also have exhibitions of material from around the world and is worth a visit to this charming town and its attractions
A beautiful building full of history! There was an exhibit of old machinery used to make yarn, as well as weaving from Peru, and my favourite....embroidered fabrics recovered from as early as the 4th century!
Of interest more for older people or those with a particular interest in agraculture. Not really a good spot for children
This Museum was built in a restored Textile Mill and the handwork shown varies from knitted tea cups in one show to magnificent quilts in another. The Museum was lucky to host the work of the late Juan Gueur and his scientific art installations. It's a great museum to check out on a regular basis.
Recently updated - great exhibits, unique location.
The Mississippi Valley Textile Museum is located in the small historic town of Almonte and hosts many excellent exhibitions featuring arts and crafts using textiles and fibres. This year's Fibrefest was a real treat with a good collection of fibre artists displaying their work and giving us great ideas. This year it also sponsored the Button Mania exhibition with a fascinating array of collections and items for sale. This lovely little museum is located in one of the nicest valley towns with a long history in the textile industry and it never fails to punch above its weight in its festivals and displays.
