This is a protected sanctuary for waterfowl and other wildlife just east of Oshawa and accessed along Colonel Sam Drive. There are several entrances and well-marked paths and viewing areas. At the west end there are paved walking paths that go to Lake Ontario through the marsh area and a bit to the east a beautiful boardwalk that snakes through a woods and marsh with lots of bird feeding stations. It is wonderful in the winter with flocks of chickadees eager to eat out of your hand. At the end of Colonel Sam Drive there is access to a series of wonderful reforested paths from the east GM parking lot. There is a wonderful short path through a small marsh area that is wheelchair accessible and has markers and a rope to guide those with limited or no vision with descriptive signs in Braille. It is a magical place in the summer and good fun in the winter. There are many seasonal and migrating birds to see in this protected area and even some beach areas for relaxing and exploring. Parking is limited along Colonel Sam Drive but allowed along the edge of the road. The best parking is at the GM headquarters. It is possible to walk along all of the paths as they do connect and their are lots of directional signs.
Beautiful park setting and was truly exposed to bird watchingDue to fall visit many geese and ducks were in view Great fall walk
A hidden gem for escape from urban life and city parks. Paradise for bird watchers. View from Lake Ontario is incredible. Must visit!
Great trails for the wanderer. Be sure to bring your camera. We saw lots of birds, butterflies and all manner of flying insects. It has been quite quiet every visit we have made.
