Some call it the "town beach" and some call it "east beach;" that's because Port Burwell has another beach, controlled by the Provincial Campground (daypasses to the park are $12). The East Beach is serene, unspoiled by commercial spots except for the snackbar (ooo the poutine). There are free parking, picnic benches and washroom facilities. The sand is well maintained; no rocks, mud, sharp shells, just lovely sand-bottomed shallow water (so safe for little ones!) and beautiful vistas, plus a long pier to walk on and from which to fish for perch and pickerel. Behind the beach is the refreshingly shaded grassy slope which rises to the Memorial Park, a great place for those need to take a break from the sun. Visitors often are accompanied by their pets, and if the pets are properly supervised, no one minds. For the sports minded, you can rent seadoos, canoes, kayaks, and paddle boats. Windsurfers also frequent the beach and pleasure boats dock offshore unless they pull in to the marina (currently somewhat shallow draught but we expect dredging this fall). Put in any small craft in the mouth of the river and go up the picturesque Otter. We love it!
