Love their Baco Noir. We actually sampled it at the Waring House Cookery as it was paired with grilled lamb and pea risotto. It was fabulous!!! We stocked up and am glad we can buy it at the LCBO.
The staff here is top notch with a nice relaxed atmosphere. The Patio area is very nice with plenty of "Muskoka chairs" to sit and relax and enjoy one of the fine wines of the County. We come here several times a year.
Sandbanks Winery is a great stop of the Prince Edward County wine circuit, but not for typical reasons. Let me explain....The actual winery here is quite small (7 acres). They grow many of their grapes elsewhere in Canada (the Niagara region), which may be a turn off to some. They also sell most of their wine (a lot of different choices) in the LCBO at the same price you can get it here. So, why is it a great stop?1. The service here is knowledgeable and friendly. No stuffiness or snobby attitude. They have a real grasp of customer service here that is not typically a strong suit for many places.2. There is plenty of room for groups and individuals.3. They have a diverse range of wines to taste. While some are better than others (Baco Noir is a more popular one here), there are choices, many of them.4. The wine is inexpensive on the whole. While you can get a lot of their wine at the LCBO, it is nice that they are producing wines that are pleasant enough to eat with dinner any night of the week without breaking the bank. There are lots of places in the area that have a $35-$40 bottle of Pinot Noir that has won a silver medal somewhere that you can buy. That can be your next stop! Here you can actually sample different selections and find that go-to wine that becomes your dinner wine or wine you buy by the case without having to get a loan from the bank.
cute, tasty and priced to purchase, They only use their own grapes and so sell out of the favorites quickly
I, like most residents of Wellington Village enjoy Catherine Langois' wines. She and her staff are friendly, answering many questions about the vineyard, growing conditions and about each of the wines offered. My favourite is her "Baco Noir". A red wine with fruity characteristics. You can taste the plums and wild cherry flavours with a hint of oak. I have served this to many friends who now buy this one as their preferred red. The best part is that unlike many reds, most do not get a headache induced by red wine. Please note that she has many flavourful white wines and I enjoyed her harvest wine too. Stop and enjoy a pleasant experience.
With over 40 to choose from, this winery was a real gem. Modern and bright appearance was refreshing (most of these wineries have only been producing for 1/2 dozen years so some ancient medieval look some wineries attempt is a bit out of place)Great whites and a even better selection of reds all at the best prices in the county! We left with 6 bottles, their Baco Noir is a great value!Tasting $ is very reasonable and waived with bottle purchases. Also had some crackers to taste with the wines, which was a rare sight in PEC. Pierre did a great job with providing information and was very friendly, a top choice for sure!!
My wife and I had to go to Wellington Ontario on business and decided to make a weekend out of our trip. We decided to take in a few of the sites in this beautiful community and came across Sandbanks Estate Winery. We had bought a bottle of their wine a month prior to our trip and enjoyed it, so we thought that we would stop by and select a few bottles of wine. As we arrived we found out they were having a pre harvest party with live music, wine tasting and tours of the vineyard. The owner and her staff were very friendly and knowledgeable, we felt very welcomed and comfortable. We went on the wine tour and sampled several of their wines and enjoyed them all. We had not planned on spending the afternoon there but we were glad we did, thank you to the owner and her staff for a wonderful afternoon and their great hospitality.
I am so wowed by the quality of the wines I tasted at this winery, especially the Baco and Mouton Noire. The staff at the winery were very knowledgeable and helpful and made you feel welcome.
A nice winery with great selection. It was quite busy when we got there, at times during the tasting we felt that we were forgotten. However, the wines were great and we ended up picking up a few bottles.
Friendly, non-pretentious service, many (tasty) wines and a nice atmosphere....we actually went twice!
This was an unplanned visit, but so glad we stopped at Sandbanks Estate Winery. A beautiful, sunny open space inside and out. Wine tasting was $3 per person for 5 wines, with a waive of that fee if purchasing - and it was hard not to purchase every wine we tasted. Certainly something for every taste and budget. Unfortunately we didn't have time to take the tour, but that would be a definite for the next visit. Wines are available to purchase online with a delivery charge, so if you are unable to find one of their wines in your area in Canada that would be the way to go. The wine maker was in the tasting room, talking to visitors and there is a well stocked gift area. Staff are very knowledgeable and friendly, all in all a wonderful experience. They certainly raise the bar both with their wines and their service. If you are visiting Prince Edward County - this winery should be at the top of your list.
Knowledgeable AND friendly staff made this visit and wine tasting an excellent experience while in Prince Edward County.
We went in the morning and were soon tasting some very nice wines and enjoying chatting with the knowledgeable young woman serving the wine. We then went on a lovely tour, with 2 other couples, of the vineyard with glasses of wine in hand! Our enthusiastic, knowledgeable guide showed us around the vineyard telling us about the vines, grapes & how our harsh winter was going to change the grapes this year but assuring us that there would still be a good harvest and many wonderful wines. All in all a truly lovely first introduction for the 2 of us to wine tasting.
On the picturesque shores of Lake Ontario, this winery is perfect! An awesome variety of wines. Try the Baco Noir! Staff is super friendly and the food fair was fun!
Very good tasting. Lots of wine to choice from. 3 dollars for 5 tastings or free with purchase of a bottle. Knowledgable staff. Lovely area to walk and nice grounds.
