Dropped in one afternoon in late fall and did a self tour. Displays were easy to understand and relate to.

We nearly drove away, because it looked as though there would be very little to see here that you couldn't view directly from the road outside, and the trains we could see clearly need investment in restoration. However, once we had entered we were pleasantly surprised by the unique displays and carriages associated with the dentist on rails and school on rails services. As a small local museum, it does remarkably well with the funds available and is worth the very small entrance fee. Friendly and informative staff too.

The train experience was good. We had a short ride, and the boys were able to actually ride in the engine. Then we went in and out of old railway cars. It was a special weekend with several kids events. Unfortunately we lined up to pay admission (watching others skip the line up and just walk in) even though the fee was minimal. There was a long line up for a hot dog or burger, and to get a face painted. I was impressed with the free workshop area where trees for model railways were being made, and later wooden whistles. The kids lost interest after the first line up but brightened up when they rode the engine. All in all a good day.

I am rating this based on my love for historical monuments. I loved reading everything, climbing on all the trains, imagining life back then. There is an intact DENTAL car! Wow. We had our daughter who is only 7 she also loved it as well! All ages!

If you have a love of trains, then a trip to the Railway Museum of Eastern Ontario is a must. The history and displays are excellent reminders of how the railway men worked and how this industry grew. It is a popular spot during tourist season in Smiths Falls, and well worth the visit.

We took our grandsons to the Railway Museum and we all enjoyed ourselves. The boys enjoyed climbing into the various cars and exploring them. It was a virtual look into the past. The main building is geared toward older children and adults - lots to read.... At an extra cost of $10.00, one of the gals who works there will take you on the handcar for a short ride. It's not a bad workout! This is one of those places where once you have been, you don't need to go back.

This is one of the best museums to go to with young train fans. Children are allowed on the trains and cabooses. They are able to climb to the top of the caboose. Go in the engines. It's very hands on exploring.

A reminder of the importance of the railway industry in our local history. Smiths Falls was an important hub in upper Canada situated on the Rideau Canal.

Unless you are really into the local history or have children who will love to climb around on the cars, there really isn't much here. The one genuine highlight is the Dental Car, which I had never seen the like of.

Great eastern Ontario town with much history about the railway and the Rideau Canal system from Lake Ontario to Ottawa.

No only did the kids enjoy it, but the grown ups appreciated the history lesson as well! A fantastic time was had at the museum by the whole family. It truly was a great bonding experience.

A good way to spend the morning, our little ones are only good for a couple of hours and they love going through the trains!

We had a lot of fun at this museum. They are slowly refurbishing old train cars to reflect the era they were used in and visitors can tour a 1970s Dental car, several cabooses and see some beautiful locomotives. They also have a stretch of track for a hand-cart (ala Wiley Coyote) that you can ride for a buck! This was a fun way to learn some Canadian history.
