This is a very well run exhibit. The staff are in period dress and really seem to love their jobs. They have interpretative displays relating to both Nancy Island and Wasaga Beach. This past summer they there were celebrating their bicentennial and had people in costume camped all over the site, both Canadian and American were participants. They camped there for three or four days. We were very impressed. They stayed in tents that looked authentic and used historic implements, and cooked on fire pits as they would have done. It was so interesting to see people in costume making period hand crafts and food. It was really well done and the participants were really enthusiastic about being there and shared stories and historical anecdotes with us. We really had a great time.

The whole Island was created by the sinking of the Schooner called the" Nancy", in the War of 1812. Go and learn about the big part this small Schooner played in the outcome of this War for the Canadians. The "Nancy"'s Hull is still there today preserved and displayed to show the small size of her and how she was sank creating the island that is there today. The museum is very detailed into what was taken on the rescue boats and how far they went to meet up with the Company of Soldiers waiting up on Lake Huron. The story is one of human spirit and determination that will make any Canadian proud of their heritage!

The Nancy Island Historic Site commemorates a little known event of the War of 1812, when the Schooner "Nancy" was trapped by American forces. The schooner burnt and sank, but with the passage of time the hulk helped create what today is Nancy Island. The hulk has been rescued and preserved and is now on display on Nancy Island. The reception centre and the Nancy display offers a wide spectrum of artifacts, history and events of the War of 1812 on and around the Great Lakes. An attractive site with well presented displays and information. When we visited, the site was hosting a large, 4-day 1812 re-enactment with a host of activities.

Great site, and convenient. The island is built around an 1812 British ship sunk and burned by American invaders! The hull is still visible, preserved in the interpretive centre, and you walk over a bridge to get to the nice grounds around it. Good family activity for a rainy day. Lots of indoor stuff to see. Or a good way to get out of the sun for an afternoon.Best to study the events that occurred here before bringing kids. The interpretive centre on the mainland is fairly new, and has interesting displays. Lots of close parking. The lighthouse at the point is small enough to climb up inside, and there is a theatre space for activities. Close to the main drag, and worth every penny. Make a donation to the museum for doing such great work.

A museum, theater and lighthouse mark the site of HMS Nancy's August 14, 1814 battle against three American schooners. Learn about the battle, her courageous crew that later captured two of the American vessels, her involvement in the War of 1812 and her early days as a trading vessel.

Had a great time here, was really surprised at the quality of curation and knowledge of the staff. Great location across from the beach too, saved on parking by going to both

Just a short walk from popular Beach #1, this museum should be on your "must see" list when you visit Wasaga Beach. If you have interest in the War of 1812, you will have after visiting here. The artifacts bring to life the events that occurred in and around this area.

There is a short movie that provides you with the history of the Nancy and the battle it was involved in. You can view a number of historic remnants, etc. The best time to visit is when the re-enactment takes place, every summer. There are actors in costume and it is fun to watch.

As a museum attraction this is one of the best we have visited, a gem of a history lesson.Canada's foundation is captured expertly here and the founders of the facility should be honoured as much as the historical figures. We had asked a native about the Commonwealth link and he directed us to the Nancy exhibit.
