Yeah, it's just a pile of books, like the piles of books you can get at any other big city library in north America. But wow, this pile of books will wow you. Guaranteed.I'll be able to tell my grand-kids I was there on opening day. So proud of my library.
What a great spot for a library. Not a lot there for books but great meeting room spaces and amazing views. Coffee shops too! Great spot for a break from Spring Garden Road :) Architechtual design is something to see in Canada. So glad it's here where I live !
What a beautiful library! You must visit the top floor and check out the views. It is an atmosphere that insists you return to enjoy!
I enjoyed all sections. Visited several times. One evening I went to a community lecture in the auditorium. Terrific lecture and space! It has great openness and light! Do go for a visit! Also, great coffee! Staff are helpful even though it is quite busy.
I visited the new central library and found it to be bright, spacious and well organized. The two cafes operated by Pavia are excellent. I had a Chai Latte and enjoyed the view from the upper floor. The rooftop area will be lovely in the summer.
We visited the new library for the first time a few weeks ago and were incredibly impressed, apart from the overpriced cafe. The library has lots to offer for every age and is architecturally stunning! There is a great reading area with comfy chairs on the first level and a large children's section on the second floor which includes a great play area. The library wasn't very busy when we visited since most of the city was still shovelling out from a major snowstorm and we enjoyed having the library to ourselves (almost). A fantastic place to study/bring the kids/have a date/kill time, etc.
It's a very fancy, clean and well placed location. Lots of space. Lovely little book nooks to sit down and read/study in private. Great look off areas to see Halifax. Fun for the family
Is famous for architecture. Great views, space and location. But why in the name of ____ are there ALWAYS long lineups to get out with a book??? Isn't that the service???
A terrific architectural design! So many activities for all ages(lego blocks for kids), music sound room, great views, good cafe, many wifi/technology experiences and of course books and nooks. well worth the trip!
Loved the old library. Had spent lots of time there an I love to read so next I will go visit the new library when wether is better. As it is very hard to park in the city so I take a bus after I park outside the city and walk back to my car. It is great city.
Fun and Free. This building is absolutely amazing. The architecture is beautiful and interesting on the outside and the inside. You can easily spend an hour of two enjoying all that the facility has to offer. Grab a coffee or sweet treat at one of the two cafes inside of the library and be sure to visit the top floor and enjoy the city views. They have an impressive collection of material including books written in many languages and a fun and interactive area for children. Do not miss this!
The new library is the pride of Halifax and is fast becoming a hub of downtown life. It is just books but a fantastic social space.
You don't need to use libraries, like libraries, or feel anything about libraries BUT visiting this new central branch will change all perceptions! What a first-rate job Halifax has done creating a new community space that houses research, cafes, children's spaces, study zones, patios. It really defines the new library of today. It is a hub of activity for reading, borrowing, socializing and a city coming together. Plus the views from the top floor are breathtaking and unexpected. The vista towards Citadel Hill is astounding and the harbour looks amazing. This is a huge feather in the cap for Halifax and I would absolutely include it on any visit to the city.
The new Halifax Central Library has already caused a buzz in the architecture world. Now, the magnificent ultra-modern building serves as an amazing new space for generations of adults and children to learn, develop, grow -and discover. Featuring 5 stories (ha ha), two coffee bars, toys and gaming areas and even a rooftop garden, The Halifax Library is a great place to enjoy stunning views of the city- or meet a friend for coffee. The new city library is very different from any library I have been in before. It has 5 floors with a very modern open concept vibe. I felt like I was in an airport the whole time. Bathrooms on each level, kids levels seem to be the first 2, then adult as you get higher. Pavia cafe is on the first lever and 5th. They have great tasting coffee. There a little pods to sit in with tables to do work. Many computers to access internet. Areas are well labeled. This was the first weekend the library was opened to the public, it was very crowded and very noisy. Seems to be more of a place for social gathering rather than a quiet place to get work done. If I was meeting up to do a group assignment or looking up research I would consider going here, otherwise I think it would be much quieter and less distracting at home. The rooftop terrace has a great view of the city and waterfront. Overall great spot to stop in and see with family and friends.
