What better way than to spend an evening out doors watching a modern take of the old classics. You can go for a walk first and then sit and enjoy. Should bring your own lawn Chairs.
I don't have enough adjectives to describe how much we enjoyed this experience, so I won't even try, but I will explain a little of our experience. Tickets are reasonable for this open air theatre experience in an historic area in Point Pleasant Park. It is a bit of a walk; but then again, the walk is so pleasant, through a wooded area with foliage all around. . And you can request a lift if you feel the walk is too long for you. We paid a slight extra fee, and were seated right up front, centre. Bottles of water were provided to the audience. The energetic crew/actors/porters did everything they could to ensure a fabulous experience. The production. Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew, was a modern take of that fabulous tale. The actors were charmingly innovative, making great use of the historic structure that surrounded their staging area. All actors were talented and well suited to their respective roles. We would definitely tell everyone we know and encourage them to invite friends.Oh...we'll be back next year!
Loved that this was a local event with the community families. Rent a chair for a few $ and donate as you wish for the show. We extended our stay an extra night so we could go back!
Saw the Taming of the Shrew. It was my first time seeing Shakespeare By the Sea and thought is was a great experience. I will go back next year for sure.
This year I went to see Cinderelly. They change the plays each year and usually run 3 different ones each summer. The cast of Cinderelly was spectacular; it seemed each role was made for each cast member. Even the guy playing "Donkalo", part donkey-part buffalo, was superb. I have been to broadway musicals in NYC and London, and I am so happy to say that this show can be ranked with them. The costumes were great. They all had quick changes. The band was included in the show, and had a few funny moments. The voices of the actors carried very well. Summer 2013 I saw Snow White and it was just as amazing. A lot of the cast is the same each year, which makes it even more fun for regulars. You really get to see their transformations as actors. To see even more of a transformation go see them in a classic Shakespearean play. You can donate what you wish to see the show. I recommend paying at least $15 in the beginning and then adding at the end based on how much you liked the show. You can bring your own lawn chairs or rent them for $2. The chairs are already set up, so I suggest renting one in order to get the best seat. This year they completed the "stage". I put it in quotations because it really is just a mound of dirt. It really makes the show better though, so everyone is able to see. There are no bad seats in the place. It is located in Point Pleasant Park. If you want to bring a dog you can, but be respectful. I adore going every year and I have even been told by my male friends that they loved it too. The show really is for all ages.
We had a group of seven people aged 11-60 and we all LOVED the performance we saw. The troupe is charming and very professional. Coming from NYC we have high standards for theater and this group did not disappoint. The setting is unique and it was great fun to watch and laugh and eat a picnic under the stars.
We went to see the last showing of "Cinderelly," a musical production and it was excellent. The calibre of talent was superb, and the cast really made the audience a part of the show. The venue (Cambridge Battery in Point Pleasant Park) is in a sort of natural amphitheatre, ensuring that there’s not a bad seat for the show. With no sound equipment to help the actors, we were really surprised that we had no problem hearing every word of the show. Additionally, there was a live band that really added to the show. A great event for all ages, and certainly a great way to support the arts in Nova Scotia!
We attended Cinder Ellie this past week and it was great. What a lot of fun we had. It gave me a whole new appreciation for theatre, who knew it could be enjoyable? The cast were very well suited to their parts and it flowed with the feel of a well rehearsed production. We were so entranced that only later did we realize that the comings and goings of cast changes, done in plain sight, weren,t even noticed and had seemed to somehow become a part of the scenes themselves. The facts that the cast appeared to be as fresh as if it were day one of the performance and that they were enjoying themselves as much as I only added to the pleasure of the all too fleeting time spent enjoying this production. Bravo to Cider Ellies Step-Mother, she was outstanding ( I apologize to her for not getting her name)PS: The 3 Amigos had me in stitches every time they appeared.
First time at Shakespeare by the sea. Enjoyed the show. Very cute. Great Singing and acting. Admission is by donation. Bring a blanket or chair or rent a chair for $2. Cute squirrel tries to still the show.
We saw Taming of the Shrew on our last night in Nova Scotia. It was great fun and well acted. We asked someone if we could get a ride on the golf cart out to the point where the play was performed and two hours later when we showed up, they remembered to come and pick us up in the parking lot. After two weeks of climbing hills and steps all over Nova Scotia, our knees were not going to take us out to the point. For those in better health it is a ten minute walk on a very well maintained path. You might want to bring a hoodie because the evenings are cool and there are some bugs around. They will rent you a blanket for $1. and a chair for $2.We really enjoyed the performance and talking to the actors.
We went to see Cinder Ellie. This has been my favorite performance to date. This theatre crew are fantastic. The performance was fun from start to finish. The setting, in the heart of Point Pleasant Park, adds to the ambiance of the production. I have been going since my children were 3 and 5 and we greatly enjoy Shakespeare By The Sea and look forward to it as a part of our summer celebration. I highly recommend it.
Saw Cinderelly Sunday afternoon. My husband and I laughed our heads off! Fabulous acting and really clever script.
Vancouver Shakespeare in the park has nothing on Shakespeare by the sea. If you enjoy theatre or simple shakespeare plays than this is a must see. Great event!!
I went here to experience a little theater outdoors. The show was intriguing, the cast professional and experienced. I enjoyed every second of the show. Everyone knew their lines and interacted with ease. I had read good reviews and I am so happy I went. The only thing I would have changed is I wish I would have brought sunscreen and an umbrella-I ended up with a bad sunburn. This is a fault on my part not theirs. We could pay to use fold out chairs which was a nice touch, and they provided snacks and drinks for sail- great for the intermission. The show was entertaining, thorough, artistic, and most of all hilarious! If you have never been it's worth a visit more than once. I will be visiting the next time I am in the area. But remember to bring sunscreen or an umbrella
Was amazing! My little girl (4 years) even sat through it and didn't take her eyes off the show. A few more awnings for shade would be nice. Some people were a bit toasty in the mid day sun.
