blackfish adventures ltd - day tours

On June 17, 2014, we did a kayak tour with Blackfish Adventures, starting from Alert Bay and going past the Pearse Islands and Hanson Island all the way to Flower Island, at the south end of Swanson Island. This day will certainly remain in our memories! We saw dozens of bald eagles, the first one landed on a rock in front of us just a couple of minutes after departure. Later, we watched several humpback whales that surfaced repeatedly at different locations, and we could hear their loud blows for quite some time even after continuing on our way. A number of Dall's porpoises were also around; they seemed to look for leftover fish in places where a humpback had been just a moment before. Some curious seals also observed us regularly.We paddled through narrow passages as well as on wide open waters, while enjoying a stunning landscape with steep rocks, lovely beaches for our breaks, and both the hills of Vancouver Island and the distant snow-capped mountains of the mainland as backdrop. The double kayak we had was comfortable - enough leg space, prompt rudder control, nicely dry underneath the cover - and extremely stable on the water. Our guide Christy gave us all necessary instructions before departure, and made sure that our seat was adjusted to a comfortable and stable position. Any recommendations given during paddling were clear to follow. The food and drink selection at lunch was great and more than expected. To summarize: we felt that the tour provided great value for money, and we will definitely book again with Blackfish Adventures when we return to the area.
