Well first I have to say that I visited Muncho Lake and The Northern Rockies Lodge back in 2004/2005. I couldn't chose the right date. Things may have changed. I was living in Fort Nelson at the time and a customer who regularly came to Dixie Lee started telling me about the Liard Hot Springs. He never tipped throughout the whole winter but said at the end of his season he would take me there to see them. We drove past the lodge and along Muncho Lake on the way to the hot springs. It was beautiful. I had no idea that the highway was so close to the lake or that the lake was so long. Absolutely breath taking. On our way back we stopped at the lodge and had supper. I learned all about their fly in fishing excursions and other vacations they do. The meal was fabulous and the staff was more than pleasant. I want to go back someday and take that drive again! It was so worth it!
This is a beautiful drive along this lake. A good place to go and have a picnic. It would be best to have plenty of gas before you go there because the price of gas is outrages at the lodge.
Our absolutely most favourite part of the Alcan drive! Incredibly scenic and inspiring with touches of the old Alaska Highway still a part of this incredible drive! Wish we had days to stay and play!
This is one of the most beautiful places on the planet. We drive the Alcan twice a year and the trip through this park is always the highlight of our trip. From seeing stone sheep to scenic vistas this is one beautiful spot. The emerald waters of Muncho Lake is with mountains rising on all sides is the highlight of the park and there is a wonderful campsite right off the Alaskan Highway. If there has to be a downside it is the traffic travelling the highway along the lake shore but it doesn't seem to bother any of the wildlife.
No matter how many times we travel the road in Muncho Lake Provincial Park, I never get tired of it. It is "Just Awesome".
We try to spend at least a week every June at Muncho Lake. The fishing in June is great and the weather is usually nice as well. We camp at Muncho Lake Lodge and RV Park. Owned and operated by Brian McDonald and Joanne Middleton, They have one of the nicest spots on the lake. They have full hookups, showers and reasonable rates. There is no lodge yet. The wildlife viewing is unbelievable, we have seen Grizzly and Black Bear, Moose, Caribou, Sheep and Eagles. A perfect spot to spend some lazy summer days, or to hike and explore. Mineral licks and the Liard Hot Springs are in close proximity . Words cannot do it justice, just go there.
We spent 5 days here at GG services camping and hiking in the region and don't regret it the views are beautiful the hikes spectacular and the owner super friendly! We would rather recommend GG as the place to stop an stay as it is far cheaper than the norther Rockies lodge and a good base to explore the beautiful park! :-)
We camped over night at the lake. It was beautiful, clean, quiet, and serene. It didn't cost much to camp (I no services) but they had nice camping pads with firepits and tables. For a small fee you could purchase firewood. There are lots of hiking trails throughout the park, there's lots of wildlife to see, and the scenery is amazing. There is lots of fishing in the area as well. Definitely recommend stopping here!
We pass this lake on our drive from Alaska to the lower 48 and it is equally breathtaking every time, if you don't stop here to take in the view you are insane!
It rained like crazy the two days we were here but it is a beautiful area and worth the drive if you can get here to see it and the wildlife!
The color of the lake is outstanding. The lake was mostly frozen while we were here. The wind and icy waters had created crystals along the shore line. Strawberry Flats is a nice camp, most sites are on the shore of the lake shore. A little close to the highway, but beautiful.
There are a few great little sports to camp along Muncho Lake. Its a little to chilly to swim (unless your really brave), but the hot springs are just a short drive away.
Very pretty area with the prettiest water around. We stopped and had a picnic over looking the lake....bring bug spray!
Very pretty lake to stop for the night. Good clean campsite and it was very quiet and not very many people when we were there. Swam in the lake-very cold.
We were driving through on our way up to Liard Hot Springs and stopped to have lunch and soak in the beaty of the lake.
