We had bought a Groupon for this attraction as it sounded like it might be interesting. Didn't disappoint but it wasn't an all day adventure unless you count the drive to and from. The tram itself was fun and you saw a great view of the 'canyon'. Pretty interesting to see all of the fish too. On the other side of the tram ride there's a small museum documenting the history of Hell's Gate complete with a short film. We ended our visit with fudge from the shop on the way back across on the tram. All in all a good way to spend an afternoon.
If you have a two for one coupon then go for it, but I think it is very pricey for what it is. The best part for me is walking out on the bridge at the bottom. NOTE: You can walk down to the bottom for free! But you will have to walk back up. I have done both many times and the walk is not to bad.
My friends was told me about Hell's Gate. So when I driving by there stopped. There is a bridge crossing the Fraser River very beautiful!
The airtram it self is a nice quick ride into the canyon, great views over the river. Maybe a bit expensive, but compared to other cable car attractions, it was reasonable. In the canyon there is a bridge over the river to enjoy the view. However there are no other walks, other than up hill. If you are a train spotter, it is a great place to be. The freight trains pass you by just 10 meters, be careful though. But if you like a good cup of coffee dont go there. There is a small cafetaria, but it does only serve filter coffee and no even a good filter coffee. There are some more shops, but I think you have seen it all quite quickly.
You must take a campy shot of your loved one using the photo op tram car set up for visitors. We arrived too late, but a nice park attendant told us we could boondock in the parking lot. It was perfect; we were there for first thing in the AM. Loved the air tram, enjoyed wandering the area on the other side, shooting photos from the bridge, nosing around the little shops, grabbing a bite in the restaurant. A fine way to spend a couple of hours.
Visited late afternoon so did not give it the time it really needed to appreciate it fully. Could easily spend hours there exploring views and riding the AirTram. Shops and Food on site. Well worth a visit.
Breath taking scenery, especially when the salmon are running. The awesome force of the Fraser River rushing through the narrow channel, spectacular. Brian and Debbie great people and they hire amazing summer staff . An easy tram ride even for those with height issues.
Non scary and reasonable priced ride across Fraser River river gorge to restaurant and museum (and clean toilets). Regular return trip every few minutes. Amazing views of river from cable air tram and also from suspension bridge. Free parking. Good value restaurant with stunning views over river
I still remember this place from when I was a kid. I thought it was the coolest thing ever. I remember my mom saying it was hotter than hell's gate. We found this pretty much by accident on one of our trips heading to Vancouver island. There aren't any words I can really use to describe the beauty of crossing high above the Fraser river. Once you get down to the little shops there was a candy shop I was particularly fond of. I still have pictures of me crossing the little bridge across the river with my doll in my hand, and my dog T2 refused to stand on the metal part of the bridge, instead walking on the wooden beam near the center. This place created a wonderful memory for me, and one day if I have children I will definitely bring them here.
Awesome experience for the kids and us! You will surprised with the history of Hell's Gate...I love the salmon chowder and burger very much!
To ride over Hell's Gate Fraser River was a thrill in the Airtram. On the "other side" is Simon's Cafe, a suspension bridge and other "viewing" platforms plus much more. ALL AWESOME!
Exciting (terrifying for my wife) drop down into the canyon, terrific views, well worth the stop off.
We've driven by this place a number of times. Our loss. The tram ride seems expensive until you actually take it; what a spectacular view and steep run across the canyon. As mentioned, the historical display is very informative( as are the staff), and very nicely arranged. The fudge factory is nice but a bit pricey. The souvenir shop is typical, but had some good year end sales. We had a salmon burger and salmon chowder for lunch, which were very good. A $100.00 bill vanishes quickly. I would goo again.
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit here. The Airtram ride, down over the river is excellent. The historical aspects of Hell's Gate are very interesting, along with the various artifacts that still remain, such as the haunted stove/oven. There's a great souvenir shop and restaurant, both surrounded by beautiful gardens. We had lunch at a table overlooking the river gorge, and could see salmon in the shallows below. I recommend the chilli - its more savoury than hot, and made a delicious lunch on a cold, wet day. You can get some great photos if you walk out along the bridge over the gorge. The girls who operate the Airtram cable car give an interesting talk on the way down, and are happy to take your photo at the edge of the gorge (with your camera) as you leave. All in all, this is a place well worth visiting. We drove there from Vancouver (and back) and it took approximately 3 hours, but was worth it.
This was a great way to break the journey between Vancouver and Kamloops. The air tram ride across the canyon provides spectacular views and the cafe at the lower side is a utilitarian, though pleasant, spot to grab a simple lunch. We were surprised and pleased at how delicious the Salmon Chowder was - one of the nicest chowders I've tasted in a long while. Every staff member we encountered was friendly and knowledgable. If you're passing through this way, Hell's Gate is worth a look.
