butze rapids park and trail

This was a beautiful hike! As photographers, we spent a few hours taking pics when the trail really shouldn't have taken that long at all. The trail was quite busy, but everyone was very friendly. Glad we stumbled across it!

Hiked all through it and found it amazing to see all the rapids and find out all the interesting facts and took a lot of beautiful pictures

A great way to spend a few hours walking through the park. Sadly though too many pet dogs and irresponsible dog owners who allow their dog to be off leash and not pick up the waste. You will never see wildlife here while they allow it.

Most of the people on this trail are locals. Joggers and lots of dog walkers. Pretty trail that will give you a good feel for the rain forest. Very well maintained and in excellent condition.

Not far from town and clearly waymarked a quiet trail with lovely views and nearby bald eagles to see. The tidal falls are a remarkable natural phenomenon.

This is an excellent trail, great views and smells wonderful. But this with limitations on walking there are parts that are a challenge. My only recommendation for this trail is more benches for taking a break along the way.

I came for a hike with my wife and my 12 year old daughter. We were not disappointed. There are wonderful big trees, and we timed if perfectly to see the rapids at there highest. It was uncrowded and we sat at the water's edge on boulders or logs a number of times to just relax. What a nice, relaxing way to spend an afternoon.

Let's just say as a history enthusiast this offers NO history NO interesting areas other than the rapids and NO detail about anything that it used to be

This hike was about 5 km and took me about 1 1/2 hours. It goes through forest and open areas with good views of the Butze rapids. All along the trail there are signs explaining the flora and fauna of the area. A nice and easy hike.

This part of the west coast is a temperate rain forest. Nothing shows this better than a hike in Butze Park. It is beautiful and just a little arduous. Well worth the effort. It will impress you. Also, if you're looking for a nice run, make the loop.

I did this hike on a beautiful, warm, sunny morning between 9:30 a.m. and noon. I caught the #60 bus going to Port Edwards right in front of the Museum of Northern British Columbia @ 9:05 a.m. I believe this is the first bus of the day. It took about 15 minutes to get there a only cost around $2. The bus lets you off at the first parking lot that I encountered on the trail. I saw the signs relating to possibility of encountering wolves and bears along the trail, and since I was hiking alone, and was unfamiliar with the area, I just decided to make noise as I walked down the trail as the sign said. I ran into enough people on the trail to feel safe on this Sunday morning. I am in my 60's and not in the best of shape, and the trail had some steeper portions, but I was able to do it without any real difficulty. Just rested a bit at some spots. Saw others my age and older (and younger) on the trail. The trail was beautiful, shaded much of the way, contained portions with planks, had interpretive signs related to different species of trees, and places/benches on which to sit and rest or meditate. The trail was very well maintained.I got to a fork where going right takes you to Grassy Bay (?) and going left takes you to the Rapids Overlook. I went left. This is a loop, so regardless of which way you go you can wind up back at the fork. In about 10 minutes from the fork, I arrived at the overlook. It was about 2 hours before low tide, and the river was foamy where forks converged. I wasn't sure what to be looking for, but the view was impressive. I stayed at the overlook for about an hour to observe how it changed. The changes were pretty subtle. I wonder what it would look like if I went as it was nearing high tide.I did not complete the loop because I wanted to visit the cannery and have enough time there. I could get back to the start more quickly by going back the way I came because it was a shorter distance. I was also told by people I met at the overlook that I avoided the steepest parts of the hike (Oh darn!). Some suggestions I have for anyone doing this hike is (1) GET A SCHEDULE OF THE TIDES FOR THAT DAY (2) FIND OUT WHAT TO EXPECT OR WHAT TO LOOK FOR (because I wasn't sure what to look for) (3) BRING WATER IF IT'S HOT AND YOU'RE DOING THE ENTIRE LOOP (Most people did not have water with them that I could see) (4) HAVE A PLAN TIMED AROUND YOU BUS SCHEDULE, BECAUSE BUSES DON'T STOP THERE TOO OFTEN.Have fun!

easy and relaxing walk along large Trees and very nice meadows.At the ocean you can watch the incredible power of the ocean when the tide changes and how fast it goes from still water to roaring river water.

Beautiful walk through sitka spruce forest Fine vistas of the falls, which change directions with the tide. Sample of stunted wetland pines and firs. All in all, well worth the time. Wolf and bear warnings for pets.

NIce 2-3 hour hike. Lots of different things too see. We really liked the rain forest and turning over rocks on the beach too find crabs everywhere.

Fabulous scenery, really peaceful place ideal for a quiet walk to getaway from it all. Good viewing points, Good place for a picnic. Well managed pathways
