I'm so pleased that we visited this lovely home. I'd recommend it to all, it's not a lengthy visit but well worth it. It's history is fascinating & being able to wander about from room to room seeing how they really lived in yesteryear was a treat. Beverley, our guide gave us an illuminating & personal insight into the family that had first lived here & my only sadness is that there are not more visitors to support the place. I'd also suggest that the entry fee is too low. $7 for me & my husband is more than value for money!!
This place is unfortunately not on most tourist's list when visiting Nelson, NZ. The historic house is on scenic grounds but its primary feature is a world class rose garden tended by a number of professional people. it is not to be missed.
This historic house is a must visit. The house is beautifully presented and the entrance fee is ridiculously cheap. The gardens around the house are filled with rose bushes of every hue. Amazing place. If you need to chose between Isel house and here, this would be our first choice.
This is a heritage house (mid 19th century) with period decorations and furnishings, most of which are original. Our guide was very friendly, showed us around and told us about the house, its history and anecdotes about the family who built it. Well worth a visit, and inexpensive. There is an amazing rose garden outside.
Took our older teenagers here today and well worth the few dollars. Our guide, Jenny was lovely and talked us through. Very welcoming. The rooms reminded me of the set up in Beamish Museum in North-East England. Lots of old equipment; a huge collection for a single property. Guides to the family who lived there helped you to picture the family. The rose garden is an added bonus and a lovely range of colours and smells.
Well worth a visit if in Nelson - beautifully maintained old cob house with an interesting history. Nice grounds too.
What a lovely stop. Happy to make the small donation to support the house's upkeep. Very informative and interesting and lovely to see the house decked out for the festive season. Then there is the rose garden. Hundreds. A myriad of floral delights. Quirky names, colourful blooms. A gorgeous place to sit and be surrounded by a rose rainbow.
We went here just after Christmas and it is well worth it. The guides were friendly and even gave the kids a quiz sheet to find little mice once they did they got balloons. The house itself is fascinating its like your walking in on a family house as they have gone out for the day my favorite things were the nannys room interesting because of the door which goes to the nursery. And the christmas dining room. Fantastic must see!
I really enjoyed my visit to Broadgreen house, Each room was a delight with many period details and artifacts. It had been dressed for Christmas which added interest. A little gem. The rose gardens were beautiful too.
I took my 6 year old daughter here on Christmas eve. I used to visit here myself as a child. The house is beautifully set out. We were lucky to catch it at a time when all the rooms were decorated for Xmas and it looked amazing. The highlight for my daughter was dressing up in some of the period clothes in the dress-ups box upstairs. The rose gardens are also worth a look. Everything is very well maintained. An interesting piece of Nelson history.
It is easy to access, very interesting and the staff are pleasant and knowledgable. Gorgeous rose gardens outside where we had lunch in the sunshine.
We took a quick detour to visit this home in Stoke, Nelson. Easy to find, good parking, friendly and knowledgeable staff. The best restored cob cottage I have visited - lots of beautiful displays and our guide gave us interesting information about the house and stories about its former inhabitants.
Really enjoyed tour of this very interesting cottage. Well maintained and definitely worth a visit! Was a private visit but great tour guide and would definitely recommend if in the area.
This is very well kept old house with a beautiful garden. It has rich collection of antiques. Guide will tell you the story of people lived there and things from the collection (old clothes, household items, furniture, some personal use items).
This is a beautiful example of an early New Zealand house, giving an insight into what home life was like in the mid to late 1800s. The house is full of interesting objects and furnishings, my wife and I loved every aspect of it. Entry fee is cheap, considering the amount of effort that goes into this house. Friendly and helpful guide. Can't wait to visit again.
