If you dont plan of walking much, this would be it. Pretty effortless when it comes to getting to the falls. Short walk- 5-10minutes. If you go during the weekend, then perhaps you might bump into the volunteers who will give you a hand by pointing out which direction to head to, help out with parking spots and also a brief history.Love this place and it will be nice to have a picnic there as well. Just bring some insect repellent.

I wanted to stay here all day, but unfortunately the bus only stopped for a short time. Best from the bottom and the walks are not too long or steep so good for anyone really. River was awesome at the bottom. Funny ducks!

Easily accessible and an effortless walk to view the falls from the top. Photogenic enough for a wedding shoot which was taking place while we were there. A 10 minute walk to the bottom and unrestricted access to swim 50 meters to the falls terminus. Heavenly !!! A day in Northland wouldn't be complete without seeking out the local waterfall !

Not far from the Whangarei board walk go for a hike starting a the top of the falls to the bottom, quickly making your way to the base. You'll like it from either perspective. The amount of recent rainfall will determine the flow of water down the falls. I was there in a dryer time with the major falls separating into three smaller ones, all plummeting to a pool below. A great place to soak in natural beauty & perhaps some water from the fall spray.

Great short walk and good spot to view the falls from. Steep steps so not ideal for everyone but worth the short adventure. Attractive falls and would be even better after more rain.

Driving from Mt Maunganui to Bay of Islands we were looking for a place to stop. took the turnoff to the falls its only about 5 minutes off the highway. There is car parking which is free however we were concerned about all the warning signs for left and vandalism - none occurred. There is a nice grassy area above the falls where you can picnic, between the highway and the falls you will pass a few shops where you can by some food. The walk down to the falls and up again takes <30 minutes. There is a reasonable path and its only a short walk. The falls are quite pretty but not spectacular. There are also rest rooms available, they were ok, not great about on par with a toilet in a park. All up if you have time and you want a rest this is a nice place to stop. <1 hour would be sufficient.

Just on the edge town it's easy to find, pleasant walk around the area and some good photo opportunities. Take a picnic and settle down for a couple of hours to chill and relax.

What a lovely setting for a fantastic dinner cruise.everyone on darryls dinner cruise worked hard to ensure we all had a good evening . The food was cooked by the young staff on board and it was plentiful and tasty . You had to pay for the drinks separately.we had some good photos taken by the waterfalls.

As kids we alway swam here and played around. It's been done up lovely now. I still enjoy the peace of just walking around here and watching the water. Nice place to have some down time

This is a nice place to visit. If you are in the area I recommend you stop. There is a nice 30 minute walk through the bush with a good view of the falls.

While staying over in Whangarei I decided to check this spot out. I found a parking spot with the help of an attendant who was exceptionally helpful and friendly. After parking I had questions about the hike which he seemed pleased to answer. Later as I left, he was helping others with the same questions. He likely answers them a 1,000 times a day, but you wouldn't know it. He also spent a bit more time helping me with some other questions I had about other destinations, even going to his car and getting a map to give to me that would help. You can take a 15-second walk to look over at the falls, or can walk down to the base which I think took 10 or 15 minutes. Great view from both spots. Swimming isn't recommended due to E-coli in the water, but some people did it while I was there. Also, the effect of falling water can impact water-borne diseases, so not sure what it does to E-coli. I probably wouldn't swim in it.I took a path at the bottom that led away from the falls for a nice, shaded hike. I think I spent an hour or so hiking. Takes you along a creek, and into an area with old, huge trees and info about them. I even came across a rope swing over the river (see my previous statement about E-coli). If you keep hiking there is even another, less impressive but still cool waterfall.

Stopped off here to break up long car journey. Just the tonic, a short circular walk where you can wonder at these wonderful natural falls and take great pictures. Easy to find as well sign posted off SH1 and only about an extra 1k on your journey.
