The surf was up but too cold if that is what you wanted to do but it is like many beaches along this coast but go to the east end and climb the granite rocks closer to Port Elliott and look back and it is really pleasant place to walk rather than surf.
Still the same after all these years. The waves crashing onto the point, surfers trying to get a good wave. They hold championships here and can understand why with the vantage point being on top of the cliffs.
Clean, big swells that pound on the beach. What else do you need?If you stay near the beach, you can hear the waves pounding all night ... I found it restful, every time I've been.
Yes the waves are big and kids should be careful but it's a big, clean beautiful beach with the most incredible sunsets. If you have a dog, they are welcome too.
Its not just the powerful sound of the waves here that has to be considered - they will throw you around!
Like others, I also wouldn't recommend this beach for young children to swim in. However it is good fun if you have a body board to ride along with the waves. For those not swimming, it is quite pretty to just relax and watch the waves crash along the beach. There are plenty of spaces for parking and it isn't a steep walk to get down.
Not touristy, but no amenities for children.Easily accessible, tidy. Limited parking.Fantastic views from the car park & beach.
This is my favourite beach in SA. The surf is HUGE (most days...) and it's not for the faint hearted. Most waves are dumpers and can be up to 12 - 15 feet high. A wall of Great Southern Ocean crashing down on you.A lot of people get injured here so take it easy and go in as far as you feel comfortable. Enjoy!
The short break makes it unsuitable for board surfers but totally perfect for body surfing.Nice to just sit on the sand and watch the pounding waves.
You want surfing excitement and 'seat of your pants' thrills, then grab a boogy or surf board and head for Boomer. Boomer by name and boomer by nature. The sheer strength of the pounding surf and 'washing machine' whitewash is not for the faint hearted. Don't expect to be able to gracefully enter the water or 'paddle' your toes, this is for the die -hards - an inappropriate choice of words perhaps! Great beach!
Horseshoe Bay in Port Elliot is the most pretty little place and will be another area we will like to go to again. The views are spectacular and it seems a quiet little place where you can go to relax. We went in winter and I hope it doesn't get too rowdy in the summer which would spoil the ambience of the place.
There's an excellent view down the entire beach from the headland at Port Elliot. If you're staying anywhere nearthe beach you'll drift off to sleep with the unceasing soundof breakers on the beach - wonderful!
Would not swim there ,but good place for walking along the beach,NOT suitable for kids in water there as too close to rocks.Very pretty place.
Back beach surf beach close by Victor Harbour tourist town.Amazing sun and sand. Fabulous body surfing.
Huge waves are a little bit dangerous for small kids- Not good surfing though as they break close to the beach
