I remember Semaphore as a bustling, exciting sea-side experience. With the demise of the railway which used to run along Semaphore Road to the Esplanade, Semaphore died. However, since I moved to Semaphore about six years ago I have seen the re-emergence of Semaphore as a bustling, exciting sea-side experience. The foreshore has been developed to provide convenient parking, lawns, a walking/bike track and access to new children's playgrounds. Also, the aging Jetty has been renovated. From there it is only a short walk to the excellent eateries, hotels, speciality shops and the cinema on Semaphore road.
My two grandchildren aged 8 and 9 had a great time at the Semaphore Waterpark complex. They paid for 5 but were given 6 slides down the waterslide for $10 each which they really enjoyed. It seemed to be very well run and organised, with the operators keeping the kids in the queue amused and cool by regular soakings with a hose whilst they waited their turns. They also have mini golf and a bouncy castle in this area for an extra charge. Take a picnic as they have a good shaded area for lunch. There is another area with dodgem cars and other fairground stuff but I can't recommend this as I thought it was very pricey. The kids had a ride on the dodgem cars for about 3 minutes which cost $8 each. NOT GOOD Value!Your children can also swim in the very shallow safe sea here and have a play on the beach so they day doesn't have to be too expensive. There is a good Kiosk by the Steam Train on the other side of the Jetty and parents can have a welcome break while the children play in the adjoining free playground. There are good clean public toilets close by.This is a really good day out for the whole family.
