amazing. Particularly the balsa raft and all that goes with it. Definitely worth a look. Lots of other interesting features and artefacts. I hope they get funding to conserve some of these priceless artefacts.
A nice museum run by enthusiasts. Well worth a look if you are in Ballina. We stayed in the Ramada just around the corner.
The outside of the building doesn't look like much, but don't judge a book by its cover! It's big inside with a lot to see.A great way to spend abit of time. Highlights for me where the small sections on local history. I didn't know a freighter was sunk by a Uboat off Ballina in 1943! Fascinating.Would especially recommend for a rainy day in the Northern Rivers.
The information packed into this place is huge. They have real ships & module too with a small gift shop. The staff are friendly. Worth a look for $5 even if you aren't into boats.
Spent a happy hour in here, could have spent more but was travelling to a deadline. Well set out displays, browse what interests you at the time. Heaps of information provided
Easily found by the river and worth the visit. Make sure to allow enough time, as one you enter there is so much to discover.Great collection and so many displays, models and memorabilia. Take time to read some of the letters on display as they give great insight into the period in which they were written and honour the lives and families concerned.
Naval history is not really my line of interest but I went in for a gold coin donation during the Prawn Festival. Very well maintained and a number of enthusiastic volunteers manning it. I was more interested in taking photographs which I was pleased to see is allowed. They have the balsa raft which crossed the Pacific some years ago now and landed at Ballina. Visually quite nice.
This is such a great museum run by a band of dedicated volunteers. It is home to the La Balsa Raft and a trip to Ballina isn't complete without a visit here at least once. My favourite Volunteer was Malcolm. So informative and full of fun.
When you head in to Ballina you will find this attraction in the main street. Run by Volunteers, the Museum has a rich history of Submarines as well as Warship and Merchant vessels. Relatively in expensive, this is a must for any traveller.
I must admit to not being too excited about a visit to this museum, but went along to keep my other half company. and I'm glad to say I was so wrong! What a fantastic little museum, run by very enthusiastic volunteers. So much to see and the exhibition on the La Balsa was fascinating. If you are in the area definitely visit, and I say that as a confirmed land lubber!
Tucked away behind the Information shop, this is a fascinating museum. Beside the history and ship models, is the display of the La Balsa expedition. The display and video is worth a visit in itself. The curator and volunteer staff are to be commended for their work and devotion.
So much stuff to look at crammed floor to ceiling with models memorabilia and so much more. For once we felt the entry fee of $5 was well worth it.
Small but contains many displays and much information. There is a large raft, many photos and models of ships.
If you love boats and all sorts of marine memorabilia, you're in the right place at the maritime museum. Lots of history to read about and enjoy, good atmosphere for anyone with navy background or interest. Worth taking a look while in Ballina
This isn't a big museum, but it is crammed full of exhibits, historical artifacts and information. It features a large collection of WWII naval memorabilia and a huge collection of model ships. Run by volunteers, it's well worth a visit if maritime history floats your boat!
