I live very near the reserve and once you enter its boundaries you are transported into a serene environment. The reserve is well maintained by a dedicated staff who look after the residents and surrounds with love. The various animals in the reserve give you an insight into many of our native species. Recently I had an Echidna come for a walk through my garden. It is a wonderful family area. Picnic facilities (including barbecues) are available and plentiful. A wonderful learning experience for all. Be aware there is a charge for parking.
I live closeby and my boyfriend and I love walking the bush trails at Blackbutt. The grounds are beautifully maintained, the picnic areas are always clean and the animals are well looked after. Blackbutt really is a hidden gem.
Its for free and kind of need to walk along the large parks and see spiders and all sorts of things. The zoo isnt that large but as i said its for free and you get to see almost all native Australians. The bird-collection is nice though. For extra 5:50$ you can have a picture of yourself and a Koala. You may only touch him though (holding a Koala is legally only possible in Queensland). Its at 2 pm sharp.
A massive park with bushwalks, koalas in a prize winning koala house, birds and emus, feed the ducks, interesting playground equipment - all for free! Plenty of picnic tables. No kiosk or food outlets.
Basically a free little zoo all full of Australian native animals . Lots of places for kids to play. Note: must bring mosquito repellant. Tonnes of mosquitoes
This is a good spot for a family bbq or picnic we took some overseas visitors to see the Australian animals but it really needs some work done to bring it up to a good rating as it is run down.Such a shame as the idea is good to have a place to go to with the family for a day without costing a fortune.
If your life is stressful and you need to get some peace, this is the place. Very large and well maintained. Good facilities.
Nice laid back area to walk around to see a variety of animals including Koala. Watch out for the Mozzies though! There'a a communal BBQ area too so you can take a picnic to cook.
Have been a resident of Newcastle for years but only went recently to keep the grandkids occupied. I was pleasantly surprised. Because of the combination of different attractions it was easy to fill in a few hours, which could have been extended with a bit of preparation on the food side.
great playground, great amount of wildlife so see & huge amount of space on the grass field for picnics or games, plenty of seating and shade available & good amount of bbq facilities, fantastic that it's free.. definitely a winner
We have visited Blackbutt Reserve many times with our young grandson. He loves feeding the ducks. We usually then walk past the various cages with a large variety of native birds and animals. Good adventure playground keeps the kids amused while you prepare lunch kn the supplied barbeque facilities. Adequate parking but as with most parks now make sure you buy your ticket.Certainly worth a visit for both young and old.
Just the place to visit with the grandkids. The whole place was immaculate & the animal exhibits outstanding. The picnic facilities are excellent.
Having a place like this makes one feel so blessed to be in Australia - a huge natural reserve with fantastic play equipment for the children, a range of Australian animals from Koalas, wombats, and owls to a few reptiles, duck ponds, and BBQ facilities - and the most you'll spend might be a parking ticket and a dollar on the Bbq.
A nice spot with plenty of picnic space for a family with young children. Take a walk around the boardwalk to check out koalas, many species of birds, wallabies, emus and wombats. Take a picnic lunch and enjoy enough space to kick a ball around with the kiddies as well. Also has a play gym area. There are a couple of bbq tables if you are lucky enough to snag one and toilet facilities available.
Blackbutt is so great! Great place to get outdoors, enjoy some time with the family and get to see some of the beautiful animals Australia has to offer! Love it!
