Drive 8 kms out of Dubbo on Newell highway \, trun left at Burroway road (sign posted but look out or it). Go to reserve at the camping grround and walk along the path by the river to the platform. Intersting to see the old grooves which are plentiful but that is the ONLY think to see. The river setting is nice, and more so in the evenings as it is hot in the afternoons.

The reserve is situated about 15 minutes drive to the North of Dubbo and is accessed via a turn off the Newell Highway. The turn is not signposted and would be easily missed by anyone without access to a GPS. Assuming the correct road has been selected the first sign is approximately 400 metres from the reserve and entry to the reserve itself is well marked. Overnight camping is permitted and a toilet block is on sight together with tank water and basic solid fuel BBQ's. Nevertheless it would be advisable to take whatever you need both in terms of food and water. The site itself is well maintained and the rock grooves are accessed via a short level walk to an observation platform. There are better views of the river closer to Dubbo and anyone considering a visit could incorporate it as part of a drive further North rather than making a special trip from Dubbo itself.

Good access road with great area for camping, either caravan or tent/swag. Great walks around the area with aboriginal rock grooves and images. 36 hour free limit.

graffiti and rubbish everywhere, this precious piece of history in my opinion is not being maintained properly

located on the banks of the Macquarie River just out of Dubbo. Park in car park, and just a short flat walk to Rock Grooves an area where Aboriginals would sharpen, shape and create rock tools in sandstone rocks on the banks of the river. Nice views of the river. Direction to site not good use Google Maps to find, approx 10mins drive from downtown Dubbo

For a attraction given a number in the Dubbo tourist guide it was poorly sign posted on the Hwy. We turn left because the stylized map showed the road to only go left. The Guide gives no distance down the road. Drive on until you see a sign on the driveway on the left again. We enjoyed the spot and history but if you are pushed for time don't bother.

Just out town, with plenty of space for the weary traveller camping or caravaning (even during peak xmas holidays, when limited to one night stay). Flushing toilets were clean, just watch out for midges (the beautiful green tree frogs take care of them at night). River bank is steep - although there are steps, it's not a place for swimming. Corellas and cockatoos abound. Easy return to Dubbo for zoo the next day.
