There is nothing to do in Mission Beach. It's a small village in the middle of nowhere. Only skydiving is a popular thing to do here.
Great beaches, food and people. The fish and chip at the Fish Bar were great. The Licuala Lodge is the best B & B ever.
Coming in from Cairns most people go north to Port Douglas but I'd definitely encourage you to go south to Mission Beach. The place is beautiful - the beaches are clean and the locals are very friendly.
This is the archetypal tropical beach fringed with palm trees. Beautiful. I just wish you could swim anywhere along it but you must be careful & keep to the stinger nets in Queensland.
You feel like you are in a wild place. You need a car if you want to buy more to essential.Be careful with the stingers.
This beach makes it feel like you are in Hawaii, it is beautiful and tropical, with plenty of coconut trees. We cracked open a fallen coconut which was delicious and fresh. The beach does for ages, and has a stinger net for swimming during stinger season. Honestly one of he most beautiful beaches I have ever seen!
We stayed in fantastic B &B just off Mission Beach- Licuala Lodge- we could of seen a little bit more if we had of had a car. However enjoyed some quiet relaxing time and then most fantastic day sailing and snorkelling on the Barrier Reef with the Big Mama Sailing. Not the time to be swimming on the beach with lots of deadly stingers and crocs in the creeks but well worth the stopover.
Mission beach is a quiet little place with a nice beach with palmtrees. Seems to be a good place for backpackers.
Nothing open over the new year but one fully booked restaurant.... pretty beach and clear water though! Maybe there more places in other areas of mission???
I love going to Mission Beach. The beach is so nice and clean with no mangroves to spoil it. A good stinger net with lifesavers is a great place for a swim in the sea. The village is OK. Lots of coffee shops and eatery/bars. Very laid back and relaxing.
Mission beach is living on its reputation and, it appears from what I saw, to be doing very little to enhance or improve the experience for visitors. The prices being asked are way over the top for what you are getting. You can only live on the "poor us we were hit by two cyclones" story to hide the fact council does not appear to be doing too much to assist the locals. The shops in town are tatty and badly in need of a spruce up. It makes it difficult for the tenants to attract custom when the outside looks so worn out and tacky. But hey that's how they do it on the Gold Coast so it might just work.Certainly not a place I would recommend.
Nice beach. Very relaxed with poor service and lack of facilities as a result. We had to ask a couple of times if various things were actually still trading, some places looked abandoned. We did see a Cassowary in the wild which was probably the highlight of our time in the area.
Mission Beach, aside from the obvious number of new accommodations etc, and nods to tourist needs, such as the wee Shopping area, remains remarkably un touristy to the outside view. It has retained its aura of being a beautiful untouched pristine beach, that happens to have a small community beside it. So relaxing. It is a good jumping off base to explore the Far North Queensland life and scenery.
Brilliant 1/2 day on the reef with some lovely people who give you an unforgettable morning! MUST see!
MIssion Beach is a beautiful natural area but is under developed and the little North Mission township is run down and under utilised.Castaways resort is the main draw card to the area and is an absolute rip off.
