If you do nothing else in Winton you must come here. We all found things we could talk about and enjoy together from the story of waltzing matilda to the photos in the train. We like the way you could feel like you were apart of the exhibits. Someone said to come here and we are so glad we did. Thank you.

What a wonderful explanation or both the song and the circumstances in which it was written. Gives a good insight into Australia and its heritage.

Visited this centre via internet from ad in Outback. cannot see what your shop has for sale!!!I will probably never get the opportunity to visit except by internet.

Not just about the song, an amazing insight into Australia's history. Excellent outdoor museum with old tools, machinery, etc. You could easily spend all day here.

Money well spend, must do attraction. Why would you travel all the way there and not go? The hologram is the highlight for sure. The little shops has plenty gifts for sale to take back home.

Matilda Centre should def be on everyones list of things to do, was fascinating well presented and it is very well looked after. Grab a pie and coffee from the Cafe amazing!

The main mechanical and audio visual presentation by the "Jolly Swagman" was but an introduction to the opportunity to learn so much about the "swag" life of Australia and the household implements and possessions that graced another era of Australia's existence. The many excellent static displays triggered so many memories of my childhood and my Grandparents that it was uncanny.

My wife and I in September 2014 visited Winton in Outback Queensland and what a pleasant surprise. The Waltzing Matilda Centre was a wonder to behold, and the staff were even better! A long way from the coast, but very much worth the effort to get there. Apart from the Waltzing Matilda Centre, the open-air picture theatre with its collection of dunny doors (no further info here, want to keep it as a surprise for when you visit), the musical fence, dinner at Tatts Hotel, the various opal centres, and an afternoon at what was truly a magnificent country race meeting, there was really no downsides; except for the showers at the Winton Country Tourist Park. Park management and everything else was tops, but using the showers was like showering with roller skates on. If the showers were better, I would give the park the "top class" rating I give everything else in Winton, a place well worth visiting.

You can spend many hours here as there are several different displays, museum sections, audio and visual/theatre displays. You can get a pass out for a return on the next day.Just after the entry go to the Billabon theatrette, sit on the makeshift "logs" and watch the audiovisual display.The legends exhibition room has a hologram show every 15 minutes and audio interactive displays of the history of the song, Waltzing Matilda.The Outback regional Gallery has a range of paintings and other works of art which also includes artists from within this region. We were told the displays do change on a regular basis.The Qantilda Museum was mainly dedicated to the pioneers and the history of the Winton area.There is a huge range of memorabilia which includes the origins of Qantas.There is also a big display outside with a whole range of old machinery, military, equine and a steam locomotive. There is also the Christina Macpherson cottage which is stocked with old collectables and also a family history room where you can research many old articles.Entry fee is $22 per adult, which might seem high, but considering all there is to see and do here, it is very well worth it. There is an option to buy a combination ticket (Winton Pass) which will include other entry's to other attractions in Winton at a discount price.There is a café on site which does provide a nice sandwich and coffee which is just opposite the entry/visitor information centre.

We went thinking we have had enough of hearing about Waltzing Matilda in our lives. OTT to us. But we were so in awe of what has been done here at Winton to tell us the story. The graphics presented a story to spellbind us. The museum and the information displayed are superb. Well done Winton. The art gallery here had the most amazing photographic images of a competition that showcased the outback so well. A wonderful souvenir shop with gifts to please all. A must to visit. well done Winton.

I didn't expect as much as this place offered. Great entry price (compared to other attractions nearby) and so much to see. Old train engines and carriages, old buggies, cars, trucks & machinery; an old cottage set up with lots of original items; the local history section where I found newspaper articles about my GGGrandfather and even found a copy of his signature in the old bank signature cards. Lovely place to have lunch too.

We did day trip out to Winton, Queensland from Longreach to visit the Waltzing Matilda Centre. The Centre itself was awesome and we loved it!!! However I wish I could say the same for the Café. Food was overpriced and they don't serve hot chips!! We paid $45 for a small Caesar salad, a chicken wrap (with just chicken, avo, lettuce), 2 sausage rolls and 3 small shakes!! What café doesn't have hot chips, curly fries or even wedges??? We couldn't see any other café to eat lunch so we had to have lunch there.

We had one day to share the expertiences of Winton and this centre was one of those experiences. We enjoyed lunch in the restaurant next door and then toured the centre. It was well presented, informative, much see and enjoy. Stepping into an old train carriage, engine, house, hear the story from the swagman's lips around the billabong. Very well presented, along with a good map so as not to miss anything.

As the entrance is in the information centre. We didn't expect the layout of the museum or the size. Very informative about the original penning of Waltzing Matilda as well as early Australian history. We had to take a 'pass out' to visit again as we visited close to closing time. Some areas need a little more time, depending on your personal interests. There is also a research room if you have any family links to Winton or this area. Our entry was a part of the silver pass to Winton, which worked out a little cheaper.
