When we first saw the museum, we thought we'd be in and out in 5 minutes but I think we spent at least 45 minutes in there. They create an interactive experience for the kids and the original house sitting behind the museum set up just as it would have been over a hundred years ago was fantastic - usually these rooms would be fenced off if you saw them in Melbourne but we could wander through at leisure. The hosts were also lovely and incredibly patient with our tribe of kids - their passion for what they do shone through. Only a gold coin donation required.

One of many attractions in this town is the Yackandandah Museum, it is the first time I entered the Yackandandah Museum. I felt I was immediately transported back in time. A sense of what we now take for granted was immediately thrust upon you. I walked away feeling charges with mixed emotions and greater respect and appreciation of how people lived in the early settlement days. Please note a gold coin would get you through the door.Across the road from the museum I could not pass up visiting the Star Hotel, where Paul Hogan and Michael Caton shot some scenes from the movie “Strange Bedfellows”. Why not include your visit to Yackandah with a lunch at the Star Hotel! A top pub, with great meals. Please visit my blogsite for more of my travel experiences:myhomenaway.orgCheers!

The smallest and cutest museum i've ever been to!Very interesting, especially the cottage out the back.Very friendly and nice staff. No entrance fee but there's a donation box so feel free to donate.Don't miss it when you visit Yakandandah.

The "dry" exterior is not reflective of the treasures inside ... and fun! No ... really. There's some funny stuff (ha ha kind funny) in here. After the entrance, you make your way into the back room that has a TV monitor in it. You won't know it, but you must take the control and start the video on the TV. It's made by the local schoolkids and it's about the principal character from Yackandandah - a guy by the name of Isaac Isaacs. It's hilarious!!! And it's historically significant. You learn a lot, and it's fun!.Out back is the original house that the bank manager and his family lived in from 1880 something to 1969. GREAT piece of history. Show some ethusiasm, and if you're lucky enough to have the volunteer-staff in the front who was there when we were, you'll get a walk around and a great yarn about the town.BTW - the main street is so well "maintained" in its original condition because all the properties were owned by a single person (or so we were told). He didn't want to change anything so ... We're lucky enough to see a really authentic town. The jam they sell is absolutely fantastic!Good job. I wish that all museums were so good to visit.

This musuem was raised from the ashes a few years back and the new museum is well layed out and gives a well informed history of Yackandandah, its people and the area.
