Thoroughly enjoyed our cruise on Geike Gorge - Definately worth the visit and much better value than over-priced Katherine Gorge.

The Geike Gorge River tour is a key attraction in Fitzroy Crossing and gives travellers a readily accessible Kimberley 'gorge' experience. Most gorges in the Kimberley involve a bit (or a lot) of walking or driving or both but this one is close to the highway and a very short walk from the car park to the river cruise. The boats are large and stable so this is not a thrill seekers experience - there are plenty of blue rinses here. The guide does a good spiel about the gorge which is delightful and has plenty of water even at the end of the dry season. There is a rock formation that looks remarkably like Richard Nixon so this makes up for his omission from Mount Rushmore and this is therefore a must see for all American Republicans.

I did the Geikie Gorge cruise with Darngku Heritage Cruise which is run by the indigenous people and not by National Parks. Bill is the guide on this two hour cruise up the Geikie Gorge. The Gorge itself is very impressive with its eroded cliffs with there many interesting shapes including President Nixon. There is also the bird life where they have built there little mud nests under the overhangs on the cliffs and also the fresh water crocodiles lazing on the water edge. That is only part of the cruise because while we are cruising Bill is giving us so much interesting information about the landform and its importance in the life of the indigenous people of the area. He tells us about relationships within the aboriginal culture and uses people within the group as examples. This is very amusing the situations that he puts some of us into but this is what makes the cruise so good. When we reach our turn around point Bill pulls into the shore and we go into the trees on the bank to this area which has been set up with tables and chairs and Bill starts to do the Billie of tea. He shows how the traditional people starts the fire all the time still talking and telling us more about the indigenous people and their way of life. It is a great cruise made even better by Bill and his personality and his knowledge of the indigenous people

The boat trip along the river is leisurely and quiet. The cave formations are amazing! We saw a couple of crocodiles and many birds. Good parking and a shady structure with posters and information on local flora and fauna. A good trip.

It was by chance that we heard of Geike Gorge National Park. So, since we were staying over for the night at The River Lodge in Fitzroy Crossing, we decided to go on the boat trip through the Geike Gorge. This was a great decision. Our guide was witty and very knowledgeable, with a wonderful respect for the traditional owners and their culture. The boat is comfortable and everybody have an unobstructed view of the surrounds. The gorge and the rock walls surrounding it are amazing and you can't imagine what it must look like in full flood at the peak of the wet - but the high water mark is there against the cliffs to remind you that it is true. Many birds were seen and freshwater crocodiles were spotted on the sandbanks. The sheer red and black cliffs, the blue sky, white clouds and blue water makes for excellent photographic opportunities. This is a trip I can easily recommend.

A friend recommended we see this if we ever had the chance. She was not wrong! The afternoon cruise for one hour was incredible. The different rock colours were amazing and our guide, Neil is a 'treasure' with his knowledge and clear voice. We enjoyed his stories and explanation of the local history etc. Many thanks to the volunteer who ferried my husband to and from the boat in the buggy. Without this he would not have been able to enjoy the Gorge with all its beauty.

We are two older couples travelling together in a sedan not a four wheel drive and we had no problem driving the 20 or so kilometres from Fitzroy Crossing to the Gorge. We did the 3.00pm one hour tour which we thought was just long enough to sit in the sun with no cover. If you show your concession card the price is only $22.00 each - and you need to pay by cash as they don't of course have facilities for eftpos on the River Bank. They do sell souvenirs (a pop up shop) and there are toilets too. The open air shed as flood heights marked and plenty of educational info to read while you wait to board the boats. One gentleman travelling with us has emphysema and does not walk far so the volunteer there took him down in a buggy and they drove him back up when we returned. (Thanks to this kind gentleman) Our guide was Neil a smiling gentleman with plenty of knowledge about this wonderful Gorge and his voice was clear you could hear all he said - even his jokes and stories as well as the detailed general information. We travelled on both side of the Gorge so if you sat on one side of the boat you got to be close to the other side on the trip back. The colours and rock formations are amazing as are the birds and even the freshwater crocodiles. Absolute value for money and such helpful staff. Make this a must see on your list.

This is a must do if you are staying at Fitzroy Crossing. We did the afternoon cruise which lasted around 2 1/2 hours. The cruise is run by the park rangers who are very knowledgeable and passionate about the area and the gorge. The cruise was fantastic with great scenery, plenty of wildlife including several crocodiles. The rock formations and the colours make great photos.The gorge is located about 15 minutes driving time from Fitzroy Crossing.

The views in this Gorge are incredible especially with the setting sun. Our guide manoeuvred the boat so we had the best possible camera shots all the way.

The $30 tour of the gorge was incredible and the ranger/guide (Dan) was the best I've met. Absolutely worth the visit, time, and money.

Take the hour long trip down the Fitzroy river through the Geikie Gorge and see crocodiles sun baking on the banks and incredible birdlife. Beautiful scenery and the commentary is interesting. Best time - afternoon 3pm trip.

Good scenery around the place, got to see a few crocodiles while I was there. Had a lot of fun and its a great place if you love photography!

We visited Geikie Gorge on 19th August 2014. According to the Fitzroy Crossing brochure you could pay for the boat tour by eftpos. When we got there, this was not the case and we did not have the available cash with us so this was our first disappointment. We then decided to do the 4.4 km Jarrambayah Walk. The first quarter of the walk is very sandy and very hard going. From then on the track is hard formed and easy going. The walk is pretty but what a disappointment when we got to the end and there was a fence across the track so you really didn't get to see the spectacular part of the gorge. We read afterwards that you should then go down to the river across the sandbank and follow the river back but, once again, this is deep sand and would be very hard to walk. There were also no signs to show this route only warning signs about climbing the limestone escarpment. So overall, a bit of a disappointment but we will go back and do the boat tour so may yet change our minds.
