the state museum of the history of literature, art and culture of altay

Situated in a big old building inside of a large garden, this is a very tranquil and serene museum. Though it's very informative and interesting, we were the only visitors the day we were there. There is an entrance fee and in case you want to take pictures, you have to pay extra 50 rubles. As it's the case in all museums in this part of Russia, all instructions are in Russian and unless you have a guide or translator with you, for those who can't speak nor read that language, the museum visit will not be very productive. There are different sections in the museum and each is very interesting. One section is devoted to famous painter Roerich and his works. His paintings depicting beautiful Altai scenes are breathtaking. Of course, there are paintings from other regional artists on display as well but those of Roerich are much more beautiful. Another section is devoted to famous writer of Altai region, Vasily Shukshin: his desk where he wrote, his typewriter etc are displayed in a special corner.One of the most interesting sections is devoted to shamanism. In fact, the exhibits on this part are considered to be the best samples in this area. Shaman clothes and drums and meaning of their symbols are well explained. Another section depicts scenes from a 19th century bureaucrat house. I personally enjoyed this museum a lot, it's very informative.

This museum had pretty much everything. It essentially contained the history of the Altai region of Western Siberia. I was an anthropology major at Cal Berkeley and I found this museum to be fantastic.

Посещал музей в ежегодную музейную ночь. Безусловно есть, что посмотреть. Представлены экспонаты как девятнадцатого, так и двадцатого веков. Много старинной одежды и предметов быта, широко представлена мебель различных эпох. Много источников литературы и культуры. Интересно как детям так и взрослым.

Больше всего впечатлили клавишные музыкальные инструменты. Есть и совсем старинные. Правда, смотрители очень нервные: подскакивают, даже когда посетитель просто проходит слишком близко к очередному клавесину)

Посетила музей в ежегодную музейную ночь, раньше как то не получалось. Очень понравились представленные экспонаты, грамофон, старинная одежда, предметы быта, книги и другие старинные вещи. Музей находится в старинном доме купца.

ГМИЛиКА - не только прекрасный музей, но и площадка для различных культурных мероприятий: реконструкций исторических балов, музыкальных вечеров (в том числе с игрой на уникальных старинных музыкальных инструментах), образовательных проектов и т.п.

Один из самых лучших музеев России. А по содержанию коллекций, в которых представлены все виды искусств - уникальный. И, м.б., самое главное, что отличает от многих других музеев - искусство здесь живёт. В концертах, в тематических киносеансах, лекториях, практических занятиях.. И - научная, издательская деятельность не может не вызывать восхищения!
