My wife & I had a lovely afternoon on our walking tour, our guide was great, we visited lots of interesting places, ate some great food, great conversation & learned a lot about the area totally enjoyable. Would highly recommend
What a great little town, very Greek influenced and has bags of character and charm.Lots of little tavernas to pop in to, cheap food and friendly people The little market was pretty cool.....with ice cream vendors pulling out flavours I've only dreamed of. Great visit
you can spend a few hours walking thru the old town , see some old ruins , the old houses and a few interesting shops . At the end of it , you can come back by the promenade along the water and have a fine dinning in one of the many restaurants
Fantastic just wondering about the cobbled streets, lots of little shops and local bars and the views are to die for
stayed in the old town in a place called guest house fotina 2, Great sunset views from the balcony overlooking the harbour. Great location, plenty of restaurants nearby. Sozopol is a lovely place to stay, went in last week in august and first week in september. Not too busy then but still a great atmosphere. plenty of beaches nearby. Lovely place for a relaxing holiday
Sozopol is situated on Bulgaria's Black Sea coast, the old town is one of the oldest trading ports in the region ; dating back 7000 years. Apart from all the old dig's and wonderful houses towering over it's narrow cobbled streets ( high heels at your peril ) there is the port in the old town which now houses a new marina where water sports and boat charter are possible. A ten minute walk along the water front you'll find parking and a huge choice of restaurants where one can enjoy the day's catch and sample the lovely local wine.Food here is very reasonable two of my favourite places to eat are; The Hotel Selinain the new part of town which has a bar/ pool terrace overlooking the beach and aground floor terrace restaurant which offered 3 course lunch menus daily for just under3 pounds sterling. This is based on last summer getting 230-240 levs to the pound. There is also an extensive menu with amazing salads (Bulgarian Speciality) and localfish.Da Vali, is an italian influenced restaurant in the port; their Octopus and speciality 'CakeDa Vali' are truly amazing. Leave room for the cake once tried never forgotten !Shopping in both the new and old parts of town are very good for clothes, by UKstandards stylish and cheap, it's a pity the Bulgarian ladies are so small /watch thesizing. Never ever change money at the bureaus Always go to a bankThere are two beaches in Sozopol , the one in the New Town is long and sandy, currentscan be deceptive and very often swimmers will find themselves under 'red flag' whichcautions going out too far , so favours strong swimmers. The Lotos Hotel on the New Town side has a good beachside restaurant and roomsoverlooking the sea .Duni, a National Heritage site is about ten miles from Sozopol and with it's amazing bird-life and white beach should not be missed. Fantastic value for money. Wonderful rustic Sozopol very hard to beat.
Cobbled streets old wooden houses and a various bars were your made welcome. Love the old town. Cant wait to go back to see our friends at panorama see you soon pavel, illiya martin and the gang
Wooden houses, lovely bars, street food great value and really charming. There is a museum and a castle with really nice walks. We had a really nice chill. I haven't been to sunny beach but this I would guess is at the opposite end of the scale
I absolutely loved the atmosphere in the old town of Sozopol. Full of artsy cafes and shops, galleries and authentic houses it is the main attraction in the town offering a little something for everyone. The ruins are well preserved and provide sufficient information for the history lovers. I see a lot of similarities between here and the Old town in Nessebar, both picturesque and a great place for photography fanatics.
It is quite nice to take a stroll out to the old town of Sozopol. There was a lot of ongoing renovations at my time of visit but none the less I do recommend a visit.
We were happy for having an opportunity to explore so beautiful ancient city on the peninsula. Old town is cosy and well maintained with clean Black sea. We had nice dinner with national buglarish food which was natural and very tasty, nice wine. Highly recomend
Best of both ! Lovely sandy beach and safe sea combined with very quaint old town of Sozopol. Easy airport access and further inland the countryside is steeped in history
Its easy to fall in love with Sozopol its not as commercialised or as large as Nessebar or doesnt feel it - but it has some nice shops and restaurants, beach, and necropolis, museum - loads of history here, some quality shops. especially liked the gallery near to the centre - friendly proprietor and mum, nice paintings, pottery etc., also make sure you go to the Casa del Mare restaurant, see Yani the waiter he is great, and the chef is great too. Super food!! The whole of the peninsular is crammed with alleyways and shortcuts, flowers cascading down, beautiful, short walk to the new town, but I am a fan of the old so my heart is in the stara grad part. A must to visit for sure, the archeology is exceptional lots spent here and continuing to be spent!!
Old Town is perfect place for walking. Looks like here in Bulgaria are 2 such places, Old Town in Nessebar and this one. Just walk through it, enjoy set of heritage of centuries. Old Greek, Roman Empire, Byzantine, Bulgarian 2 states, Ottoman Empire, and modern world. Each era left here something
We hired a car for a few days, lovely drive from Sunny beach just over the hour but was well the journey down, what a lovely place loads of market stalls, shops and churches plenty of places to eat and drink most of which were fish dishes. Well worth spending the few levs it costs to go round the museums that are there, gives you some idea of how Sozopol got its name.We took a walk around the walls and down by the harbour it was lovely to sit and just watch the locals go in and out of the harbour on their boats. We also found a car park down by the harbour, parked down there for about 3 hours and only cost us 6levs which is just over £2.
