A break in the weather of a very rainy summer allowed us to sneak in a visit between the days of steady downpours. All that rain provided amazing waterfalls to see and hear. Some trails were "closed" due to excessive rainfall, but the hardy waded barefoot and the better-prepared wore water shoes to slosh though. Very fun! Frequent shuttle buses sensibly minimize traffic and automobile abuse of the park. Pack a picnic as the best thing at the concession stands is ice cream. It was very busy, but I've come to not mind sharing beautiful places with many people as long as the crowds are managed to protect the resource and not "love it to death" and there are still places to go that restrict heavy use by permits. The more people who see beautiful places the better as it may increase support for natural resources protection. Know that you have to pay for parking at a kiosk before you get your car in line to exit or things may get a bit complicated for you. Can't really speak to wheelchair accessibility. Some portions of the trail may be doable for people with limited mobility, but not most of it.
Dont let winter put you off visiting Plitvice. It is still beautiful and far less crowded making it easy to walk the lower lakes, which are amazing
The lakes are nice and the waterfalls are nice. the colour is really nice of the water. And the fish in the water can clearly be seen and make it interesting. I had heard how spectacular plitvice was that I was a bit disappointed due to my very high expectations. On a world scale it does not rate in my view. But while you are in Croatia it is a nice thing to see that is for sure. It was nice but not great!
We loved the natural beauty and abundance of it! Great areas if you love photography, natural beauty!
Just thought I'd review all of these...they're all amazing...however long you're in Croatia for...make time for Plitvice! If you go at high water levels like us...expect to get your feet wet!!
Flooded at the time but made for an interesting walk. Still very beautiful. Our shoes were totally soaked through but it was worth it to see the rest of the beauty offered at the park.
Ideally visited in autumn or early morning or just before park close, we are the only thing that marr the experience.
You can make your way around the lower lakes if you walk quickly in a couple of hours. It's a gorgeous, tranquil setting. Amazingly beautiful. Take your camera!
These lakes are unbelievable, when you venture down from the entrance and see the colours against the rocks and greenery it really is like something you will have never seen before. The walkways, little and large waterfalls connecting the lakes are also lovely, small fish swimming about just add to their character.
If you have limited time, or fear a little climbing, this route is ideal for you: you get an overall image of the park, without making to much effort.
If you do not want to climb up and down. A visit only to the lower lakes is enough to experience Plitvice. Took courage and visit the waterfall.
If you want to start from something nice and cute in the beginning - take your route through Lower Lakes (by the ferry to P2 and then walk to ST3), with each step the waterfalls will get higher and higher. And just after that aim to the Big Waterfall (Veliki Slap).
We loved both the upper and lower lakes, but waterfalls are bigger and more beautiful at the lower lakes
The lakes is fantastic, the wather is so clean that you can see the fish. Wonderful...you have to see with your eyes this place.
Quite spectacular especially if the sun is shining - the colour of the water is amazing, so clear you can see all the fish swimming around and the ducks enjoying themselves. Well worth the visit - but dont go in season - its too crowded.
