If you like wax museums you will love this! For myself, I'm not so much into it but the staff were lovely and the stories were interesting.

You listen to stories of the leading Icelandic Vikings on a headset as you meander through.. short trip but enjoyable. You get a discount with a city card

This museum gives the visitor a half hour journey through Icelandic Viking history, via an interactive tour. Earphones tell the history in your language, the figures are fantastic, & the whole experience was fascinating. Even adults get the chance to dress up as Vikings!! Great for selfies! The onsite cafe is simply beautiful, with the food & drink being plentiful & reasonably priced.Don't miss this one

We went here yesterday after we had visited the settlement museum & the maritime museum. This was by far the best of the three. Staff very friendly & helpful, huge lockers available for free which easily fitted a rucksack & two heavy winter coats. Would recommend this museum even if your not really into this sort of thing

The museum overall was really informative and got me interested in Icelandic history and the sagas. I loved the wax figures combined with the audio description and it was fun to try on the Viking apparel. I would spend more time there next time as it felt fairly brief overall, but I probably rushed it.

Cute museum, great for kids! Like the website says "A close encounter with the most historical figures and major events in the Icelandic history". Dress up like a Viking and take a picture!

a well designed unusual way to explain the history of Iceland. Visiting this museum i had a better understanding and recollection of facts compared with the other traditional museums. The visit was enjoyable and we are very glad we came across this museum.

We came across this museum by accident when we had walked down to the old port. It is definitely worth a visit. The history of Iceland is depicted by a walk through time with the help of headphones in English telling you different important events and also there are very realistic waxworks to depict the events. Once you finish the tour there is an area where you can take photos dressed in costumes (there is no charge to dress up) which was great fun. Also there is a little area where you can watch a film about how they made the museum and how the waxworks were made which was very interesting. The staff were very friendly. Cost of entry was £10 per person (2000 krona) which we thought was good value

We enjoyed this place and it was great for our son, who's 8, to get a better understanding of Iceland; however, it was a tad pricy. The lady who helped us was fantastic!! So sweet and helpful was she. Two highlights are that you get audio tour with the price & afterwards the dressing in Viking gear was great fun for the whole family. It is a bit out of the way rather a bit of a walk if you aren't already in City center. Fun, though.

Located past the harbour in Reykjavik, this museum offers an audio tour history trail through Iceland's early history.Access to the building is easy, but the museum is just on the edge of centrum 15mins walk from the main shopping street. All on one level this attraction I suitable for all mobility levels and ages. There are 17 audio stops on this tour, each one giving detail about a particular era in Icelandic history. There are wax work models galore (which look real, especially as you'll swear one is breathing); to set the scene for the different time periods you're travelling through.Although I had a Reykjavik card enabling a discount on the entrance fee; the discount is negligible (but I guess for a family of 4, ok). As a solo traveller, this attraction was expensive for what it was 2000kr (£10) without a discount. There is a small gift shop and a coffee shop with toilets on site too. All in all, a good attraction; but expensive - and all the information I got I learned whilst on a tour from a very knowledgeable tour guide.Definitely a doer if your not doing trips as you get the history.

Upon first glance, you might think that this is going to be a hokey tourist trap, but it's not! The audio tour of 17 important moments in Viking history is very well done, as are the life-like wax figures. You can even play dress-up at the end to capture a fun photo!

This is a museum which can easily be completed within half an hour, perfect if you're in Reykavik for a short time and are trying to pack as much in as possible. An audio guide brings you through the exhibitions displaying highlights of Reykjavik's history from its settlement through to the Middle Ages, brought to life by life-like figurines. We went as a group of adults but I imagine kids would also enjoy the stories of Reykjavik's Viking history. At the end of the museum is Viking clothing, helmets and accessories that you can dress up in and take photos. The donuts and hot chocolate in the museum café were also pretty delicious.

We decided to duck out of the storm currently battering Reykjavik so went into this particular attraction. It has some resemblance to the Jorvik centre in York but a little less detailed. It was great to find out some of the history of Iceland and its founding fathers and the wax works were really detailed! However it has left me wanting to find out a little more about some of the stories they touch upon during the audio guide.I will let you decide if that's a good thing or not!

No lines. Well paced. Fair priced audio tour. Lifelike wax figures that help you visualize the narrative on audio. Gives you a great, brief history of life in Iceland from the beginning of time. Has period costumes at the end of the tour so you can reenact being a Viking if you are so inclined.
