This zoo visiting will take you an entire day because you'll find all the animals you know from your zoology class. As a bonus, you will have fun at the seal show or at feeding time of the polar bears. Don't miss the newly opened aquarium!

There is the best zoo in Hungary. The animals are keep in good cellar. Zoo has got various programme ( seal show, touch show...). We stayed here last summer and bokked a room the hotel in the zoo terrain. Lion roar in morning - fantastic. Great place

My daughter went to zoo camp here and the experience was wonderful. The zoo is outside of the city in a forested area. The animals all have large enclosements and are free to roam around in large areas. There is a farm area with petting zoo. The new Ocenarium is very nicely laid out and has a number interesting species of fish, lizards and snakes to see. It's big and there's a lot of walking involved. There are nice picnic areas but the one downside are the food vendors, it's mediocure at best so bringing your own is a good idea.

It is a beautiful place to visit. I suggest you to ask at the entrance for the garden map (I attached it to this comment) and start visiting the garden with the right to the most remote places. Areas 14 and 15 of the map is currently under construction and can be avoided only through the Amerika. Reserve your visit 5-6 hours, during which you can also eat.Shows that you can see are: 1. sea lions every day from 11 am, 13am, 15am, near the entry to the left: 2. parrots every day from 13.30. Wait about 10 minutes because sometimes the show starts later. Approx. 50 meters to the right of the entrance. 3. shark feeding, Mondays and Fridays from 09.30 in Green Pyramid - Oceanariu. In the midle of the garden is building a new space which forces you to surround a bit (zone 14 and 15 from the map). You can see more information and pictures http://www.sostozoo.hu/

My grandmother live in Nyíregyháza so we go there many times but we can't tired of it. The Ocenárium and the Zöld piramis are awesome. Every animal have enough place. I went to a lot of zoo but it's the best for me.

Sosto Zoo is one of the biggest i visited and i was quite impressed. It's very big, you need one whole day to be able to visit it entirely without being in a rush. The animals look quite good, you can see that they are treated well, and fed likewise. The variety of species will overwhelm you, especially the small animals. I really like that the animals are arranged as they live on the continents they live, and you can also learn a few things about them. You can eat and drink inside, so it's a big plus if you're a family with kids. There are a few shows during the day, the penguins, the seals, the parrots...but this is all information you can find on their website. Parking is a bit difficult in the weekend, we had to park quite far away.

It's one of the best zoos from europe, the animals lives in good condition, you have a lot of things to see (there is also an aquarium and a jungle), lots and lots and lots of animals. We and our little child (1 year old) really have a perfect day trip.

We have seen animals we were not aware they even exists :-)In the Zoo animals are well treated, the area is well maintained, the Zoo participates in species conservation programmes which I am happy about and think is crucial nowadays!

I liked variety of species, the seals show, arrangement of spaces. Not liked visitor reception area and crowded parking. From what I've noticed is building a new area that will accommodate crocodiles among others.

I had been in many zoo-s in four continents, but I think this is one of the best one. Where can you see galloping giraffe herd (besides the real savanna)?

The second largest Zoo in Hungary (there are not many more). The Zoo was established in 1998, and it is placed in an oak forest, in a natural, almost untouched environment. In the area of 35 hectares visitors are welcomed by so-called „continents”, which enable them to „walk round the Earth” and to observe how animals live in the different parts of the world. Professionally designed and managed place - kept nice and clean. As morty86 said: it is a SUPERB ZOO

It's awesome. Crowded but awesome. Been there with a friend and it took the cake for me. You can find a wide variety of animals there, friendly staff and it's an overall good time. You will need time to visit evey animal. But it's worth the while. I myself went to see some raccoons as funny as that may seem. They were adorable, I even had some crackers and gave it to them and they were reaching for them, so adorable! People started to gather and gaze at them. I don't want to explain every animal but overall it's a nice place. Didn't get food, as you can guess prices tend to be higher. Souvenirs as well. There are people who hold snakes that you can take pictures with if you're into that stuff :) Prices are good as well, if you are a student, dont forget to bring your student ID or something to get a discount. Overall I liked it. I paid more on the trip to get there but I don't regret it one bit.

Sosto Zoo is s superb zoo and must without a shadow of doubt be the best Zoo in Hungary and one of the better in Eastern Europe. The first impression of the zoo is really poor because of the bad parking and the really shoddy entrance area. The first exhibitions are also somewhat of a let-down, with dirty areas for the ice-bears, lots of dirt in the water tanks around the entrance and generally little appealing start - but things only go up from there. The area is huge and you will find yourself spend many many hours here. There is a huge variety of animals, they seem to be (except in the entrance) extremely well kept and taken care of, and I think we saw all the animals that we know. Lions, giraffes, tigers, leopard, bears, snakes, antilopes, monkeys of different sorts, gorillas, bats, fishes of all kinds, wolfes, water buffalo ++++. They are all here. There were few people (early June), and despite lots of buses with school children, we were often alone in exhibitions. We got close to all animals (sometimes as close as a meter), and the displays were often open and let you get close. There were also great indoor exhibitions of different sorts that let the children marvel at both fishes, frogs and other animals.A big difference from a Zoo like San Diego, is that here things were really open and liberal. No big queues, "walk here lines", "you are about to enter the lion area", "queue here for the tiger-exhibition".. none of that. Only pure enjoyment and exhibitions of animals, one after another. We were really surprised. In addition, there were an amazing exhibition were children were allowed into a fence to touch young goats and sheep as much as they wanted. Without extra pay, without any queue. At one point our children were even alone. We have never experienced anything like this before. There as also a lemur-area where you would enter the big area they live in through gates, and they would actually come up to you and touch you if they wanted.Around the zoo there are multiple kiosks that sells good food at very good prices, and you can even get proper drinks and Hungarian and international food. There are also several very nice sit-down areas were you can sit down, and we got to really relax as well as watch the exhibitions. The reason I choose not to rate it excellent, is because upon trying to find a toilet, I did find one next to the elephants - which was dirty and had no soap and no paper for drying your hands. In addition, I question the cleaning facilities available for those that prepare the food. More hygiene-focus would be welcome. In addition, the entrance and parking really needs to be brush up - as well as the area for the ice-bears. Another really negative point is that there is not a single ATM/minibank in the entire park, and no stores accept card/visa/mastercard. Bring cash or you will not buy anything to eat or drink, nor souvenirs.

We chose a rather busy day for our second visit. We had no chance to get a parking lot and had to walk about 1000m to the entrance. The zoo is well maintained, impressive, clean. Unfortunately the restaurants offer low quality food at very high prices. Otherwise everything was OK, the kids loved it. Bathrooms are clean even in crowded periods.

We (a couple) came to Nyiregyhaza for one day in June in order to see this zoo. Nyiregyhaza zoo broke our stereotype that the best zoos are usually located either in the capitals or big cities such as Vienna and San Diego. It is a myth because the best zoo for us is in Nyiregyhaza. The prices to enter this zoo are very good (adults: 9 euros, students: 6 euros). With this price you get yourself an access to 35 hectare shady territory, which is two times bigger than famous Vienna Zoo and almost as big as San Diego zoo! As a result, it is much less crowdy (if not empty) even during high season in contrast to famous and not really big zoos.Even that this zoo doesn't have panda, it has many species from around the world. The design of the territories for animals made with both respect to visitors and animals themselves. From one side, visitors can easily and safely see animals (lions, tigers, bears, deers, raccoons). It is very good when you can take picture of some exotic animals without any barriers such as fences, walls and windows in front of them and feel save at the same time. In addition, many animals you can even touch with your hand. From the other side, you feel good observing bears running in the forest in this zoo rather than seeing them sitting in the small cage as it sometimes happens in the other zoos. The facilities such as restaurants may look poor, but only for those, who have a desire to eat in the fancy place in the zoo. In anyways, Nyiregyhaza zoo has some burger and ice-cream places. So if you are not choosy to eat from the plastic plates while sitting on the plastic chairs, then it can be an option to enjoy some familiar tastes for the very reasonable prices. In addition, you can always bring some sandwiches in advance as we did to enjoy them in some nice zoo's areas with a view to animals. The big surprize for us was aquarium with a shark that was swimming right above our heads. The indoor waterfall was also very impressive and atmospheric. All in all, we recommend everyone to come visit this zoo even if it will take 3 hours to come here and even if you are not huge fan of animals. The nice walk on the empty alleys of this zoo under the shady trees during summer day will bring a good mood for sure.
