Took the narrow gauge train up from Miskolc (really scenic and nice ride, with a bonus wood stove that was great in January). Wandered around the castle, mini-labyrinth, waterfall, and caves. A great way to spend an afternoon, and we got dinner at Tokert Hotel (in Lillafured) right afterwards. I'm generally not one for tourist attractions, but this was a nice leisurely way to spend an afternoon.
Lillafüred is one of the popular leisure targets of Miskolc' inhabitants, you can find a gorgeous palace / Hotel Palace anyway /, a spectacular little lake, nice waterfall, very interesting caves nearby. And in construction a soccer theme park with chair-lift to the hill /"Seeing Stones"/.. Just believe bluemac-uk, he's right !
Lillafured is a very pleasant little town, just out of Miskolc. All the autumn colors are gorgeous, and we had a very nice and relaxed walk around the lake. It seems like there are a few walking trails in this area, but the signage is quite poor and there was no tourist information available (there is one at the train station, but it was closed when we were there).
Lillafured is just outside of Miskolc and you can easily get there by taking the number 1 tram then changing onto the number 5 bus.You can alternatively jsut take the number 1 tram to the small forest railway stop and then take the forest tram with open carriages through the lovely forest and enjoy the scrnery. The small train goes from Miskolc to Lillafured and it only costs 700 Ft per person. Iyt's definitely worth it. Just make sure you get off at the Lillafured stop.We wandered around just being amazed by the lovely scenery, the untouched nature. You can visit many of the terraces. These all have either statues of famous writers and artists or scientists on them. The teraces open up walkways to small caves, waterfalls and gardens. If you wander far enough you will be able to see one of many waterfalls in Lillafured. It's truly a piece of nature that has been taken out of a magazine and unless you are in the picture your family won't believe that it's not a photo you have taken off the internet. This is such a small place but it has so much character, it was especially nice because all the trees surrounding it had lovely colourful leaves on, the joy of the autumn. You can see a lot of caves in this area of Hungary as well and if you fancy you can visit the Anna or Istvan caves, these are small caves. If you are looking for a luxury holiday with luxury stay you can always book rooms at the Palace Hotel Lillafured. There is definitely plenty to do here and if you get the chance I'd suggest you go for it and explore this small village as it has a lot to offer and it's great fun and relaxation.
We visisted Lillafüred this October and I was simply bowled over by its stunning natural beauty, along with its immense and frankly spectacular Palota Hotel built up above the waterfalls, lake and caves that surround it.I would strongly recommend getting to and from here using the narrow gauge railway, which takes you through the forest for around half an hour, is very cheap, and a lot better than the bus in my opinion (and less confusing!)Make sure if you come that you just check out the grounds around the hotel, which are completely free to enter, and would make a lovely spot for a picnic or just generally chilling. There's a waterfall, and access to one of the caves should you fancy it, inside the grounds. There are also lovely planted gardens, and the place is just generally really nice. Even has free wifi!Alternatively you could hire a boat and row out onto the lovely Hámori-tó (Lake Hámori), or visit one of the many caves in the area.Really worthwhile visit. We enjoyed it very much, and would highly recommend to all for a nice morning out in the Autumn (or any other time for that matter!)
location of the hotel Palota is excellent and the scenes are so beautiful in Autumn. it would be nice for trekking and walking in spring and summer. desgin of the hotel, well maintained gardens, closeness to the lake and the valley are like in the paintings or the dreams. want to visit again and stay in the hotel for a few days.
We took the train from Miskolc, it cost 2800 huf for 2 persons return, it was very scenic but a little chilly. Lillafured isn't a town with two massive mountains each side so it seems that either one side does much sun. Most houses are in the valley and are very quaint. The place is full of bed and breakfasts so there is plenty of accommodation, there are only a few restaurants and they basically have one big lake and a big castle which is now a hotel. The hotel is very impressive its called Hotel Polota Lillafured and these are the main two attractions here. I did take a walk around the hotel and lake or dam and it's very nice. This is a nice day trip.
Lillafured is a beautiful place near Miskolc, with a lake and flower-gardens. You can make a trip along lake or go down to the caves and waterfall. There exists a bicycle way also. Everything was beautiful, with an exception in Anna Cave, where I buy tickets using English language, but in the cave the same person didn't speak at all in English and we must search on the internet after visit to know something about this place ... After this we followed the road to Eger and we were driving on a road through the forest...beautiful and so special!
In terms of nature sightseeings, this is the best place to visit in Miskolc. it is well preserved and there are just a few buildings, where the hotel in front of the lake stands out
Quite and preserved. Trekking possible in a beautiful and wild forest around a fresh water lake (dam)
+ Very beautiful lake in contrast of mountains, tourists railway;- Too hard to get there by public transport.
Wonderful wellness center. The village is small but beautiful. Take the train and discover the hiking trails in the forest, near the lake.
The surroundings are tranquil and the lush green is very relaxing. The main promenade (near the lake) was under construction, but will probably be very nice once completed.
Lillafured is a beautiful place all of its attractions: the castle, the forrests, the lake. You can go to Miskolc by train, you can hike, you can eat roasted trout and the famous hungarian "langos". I grew up in the neightborhood, I visited this place almost every weekends.
Lillafured is one of Miskolc must see places. The Palotaszallo lays in the middle of the Bukk forest that itself offers numerous beautiful hikes. There is a pleasant walk around the Palotaszallo in a newly renovated hanging garden. There is Anna cave at the bottom of the water fall in the hanging garden but you gotta check their hours as they are only open limited hours. Above the Palotaszallo, you can taste real great food from sweets to sausages, deep fried fish, ice cream and you can sip wine, beer, or spiced wine on the terraces of the little buffets. There is also many different vendors that sell Hungarian gifts to take back with you. My all time favorite is the lady who is carving wooden flowers, colors them and they look amazing! Her father started that business long time ago and I bought one from him twenty years ago that I still enjoy looking at today. He passed away three years ago and she took over the business. Beautiful family activity throughout the entire year. You can also take the little steam train from Miskolc, Kilian to the Palotaszallo and don't forget to stroll around the lake, or even rent a paddle boat. Make sure you pay attention to the parking situation. Everywhere you park you need to pay for it. The tickets can be purchased from the free standing ticket machines.
