What a lovely simple museum dedicated to the works of a very original and quirky painter who finally became well respected after his death but who lived hand to mouth and painted for his supper

Well laid out. An insight into this famous Greek artist. A bit out of the way, but well-worth the visit. Primitive art at it's best. A trip through Greek history and folk life.

This museum displays many paintings by one of the most popular Greek painters, born in Varia.He lived here with his mother when he wasn't wandering around the country painting naïf, colorful realistic paintings of rural or historical scenes which you can see here - as well as on the walls of some old cafés. There is a lot of info. about his life and the unique way he dressed . It is a moving experience even if the style is not your favorite !After visiting the museum, which is surrounded by old olive trees, drive 5 minutes to the village of Ταξιάρχες to Antonis café and ouzerie for the best meal you will eat on the island .

This gentleman was a naive painter which later became famous.I understand that naive painting can be a good art form but ,with my apologies , I did not like what I saw . Sorry !

Theofilos was the most well known naiv painter of Greece. His works exposed at the museum are all great, though the museum itself needs a lot of work in order to be good enough to deserve his legacy.

I was fortunate to view Theofilos' works in this setting many years ago and it was the highlight of an extended stay on the island. Surrounded by a silver olive orchard and the electric pulse of cicadas, this shed-like structure is commensurate with the simple and selfless nature of the prolific itinerant artist. His murals are brilliant in situs--you can almost see the villages arcing their dance among the trunks visible through the windows. I can't wait to revisit this national gem.

Καλό είναι να αποτελέσει τόπο επίσκεψης-προορισμού για όλους τους επισκέπτες παραθεριστές του νησιού της Λέσβου .Βρίσκεται κοντά στην πόλη της Μυτιλήνης , δίπλα στο αεροδρόμιο μέσα σε ένα καταπράσινο τοπίο . Τα εκτιθέμενα έργα του *ΝΑ'Ι'Φ* ζωγράφου είναι φανταστικά .Για όποιον αποφασίσει να επισκεφθεί - ξεναγηθεί το μουσείο *καλό θα είναι* να ενημερωθεί για τις ώρες λειτουργίας από το ΔΗΜΟ ΛΕΣΒΟΥ 2251027777 & 2251350555 .ΥΠΟΨΗ ότι δεν λειτουργεί όλες τις ημέρες και ώρες της *εβδομάδας-έτους*ΔΙΠΛΑ στο εν λόγω μουσείο λειτουργεί και το μουσείο του τεχνοκριτικού *ΕΛΕΥΘΕΡΙΑΔΗ -ΤΕΡΙΑΝΤ *που κρίνεται* σκόπιμο ο επισκέπτης να δεί.Εντός της πόλης της Μυτιλήνης υπάρχει-είναι επισκέψιμο στη συνοικία ΒΟΥΝΑΡΑΚΙ το σπίτι που έζησε τα τελευταία χρόνια της ζωής του ο ΘΕΟΦΙΛΟΣ

Visitamos este museu como parte da nossa programação nesta ilha. O museu combina perfeitamente com o artista, umilde mas com grande talento dentro que são as obras expostas no museu e como erá o próprio artista. Um exemplo brilhante da arte grega moderna. A quem interessa arte, não pode deixar de visitar o museu e apreciar as obras que ele abriga. Recomendamos como entendidos no assunto!

ο χωρος ειναι πολυ μικρος,τα εργα ειναι στριμωγμενα.Δεν υπαρχεικαποιο ενημερωτικο φυλλαδιο η καποιος να σε ενημερωσει.Τα εργα ειναι αντιπροσωπευτικα του καλλιτεχνη.Ο περιβαλλοντας χωρος δειχνειεγκαταλειψη.Δεν υπαρχει χωρος να καθησεις η να παρεις λιγονερο.

Υπέροχη συλλογή,μακάρι να υπήρχαν όλοι συγκεντρωμένοι εκεί (των ιδιωτικών συλλογών) για να μπορούμε να τους θαυμάζουμε και να γινόταν ένα μεγαλύτερο μουσείο για αυτόν τον καταπληκτικό ΕΛΛΗΝΑ ζωγράφο

Ενα σχεδον μονιμα κλειστο μουσειο σε μια απο τις ωραιοτερες περιοχες της Μυτιληνης στη καταπρασινη Βαρεια.Ποτε κλειστο λογω απεργιας των ελαχιστων υπαλληλων΄,Ποτε κλειστο λογω συντηρησης των ωραιοτατων πινακων του λαικου ζωγραφου ΘΕΟΦΙΛΟΥ και ποτε κλειστο γιατι οι αρμοδιοι του Δημου Λεσβου δεν ενημερωνουν σωστα τους επισκεπτες για τις ωρες λειτουργιας του με αποτελεσμα πολλοι που θελουν να το επισκευθουν σε συνδιασμο με επισκεψη παραλληλη με το παρακειμενο καταπληκτικο μουσειοΤΕΡΙΑΝΤ που και αυτο εχει τα δικα του οικονομικα και μη προβληματα να φευγουν απογοητευμενοι.
