A lovely way to spend the day. Circumnavigated the whole island stopping at 5 beautiful beaches where you can swim off the boat. Very pleasant lunch included and you can buy beer, wine, ouzo, minerals. €30 per head. Next time I'll bring goggles and snorkel.
The two most recent reviewers give an accurate description of the trip, the itinerary of which can vary depending on the wind and sea-state. The agents are open about this when you book and while, under ideal conditions, a round-tour would be best, they do stress that this might not happen. I suspect that the day of our trip was fairly typical as, with a north-west wind, we went from the port up the east side of the island and then back down as far as Katergo. So, the itinerary was unremarkable (we saw the same stretch of coat twice) though the scenery is of course lovely; and the boat is crowded - not dangerously so, just, to my mind, uncomfortably, and I would probably rather have paid 50 euros a head instead of 30 and had more space. Having said that, the crew managed to produce a surprisingly decent lunch which was very efficiently plated to avoid the free-for-all of a buffet. Swimming off a boat in the Cyclades is always fantastic, and there was plenty of opportunity for that, particularly in the wonderful water off Katergo beach. If you do want to go on the trip, book a few days in advance, as the boat routinely operates at capacity in July and August.
The boat tour costs 30 euros per person. The price includes a light lunch. The tour lasts about 5 hours. Tickets have to be bought in advance from Diaplous travel agency in Chora or in Karavostasis (if their office is open). Depending on the weather the boat travels either along the north or south coastline or around the whole island. When we took the tour, the boat followed the south route due to the weather. It approached Ampeli beach but couldn't stop there due to the waves. The first stop was at Livadaki beach and the second at the Aspropounta bay where we had the light lunch. The lunch consisted of tzatziki, bread, one or two small pieces of local pies, olives and tomaroes. After the lunch slices of melon were served. Then the boat stopped at Agios Nikolaos beach and at Katergo beach. At these beaches the boat approached the coast and we were able to get to the shore. At the first two stops you have to dive from the boat. Finally, on our way back to Karavostasis the boat approached Georgitsis cave (a large cave at sea level), there we were served raki and a local sweet. The upper deck of the boat is exposed to the sun and it shakes more there if there are waves. If you want to choose your sit you should arrive at the boat at least 30 minutes earlier than departure time. In my opinion the tour is somewhat expensive but it provides a great opportunity to see the impressive coastline of Folegandros and to swim at five beaches in one day.
The boat tour is a nice way to see (half of) the coast of the island of Folegandros; you get a very good view at the very rocky coastline! The tour takes about 5 to 6 hours and first sails to the far end of the Island. On the way back, they stop at 5 or 6 bays with beaches, where you can jump off the boat, swim and relax. Great fun for the kids! Only on the last beach, the boat can come that close to the beach than you can walk off the boat and take a bag (with towels, ...) with you.A cold lunch is served, which is more than OK (regarding that you're on a pretty small boat) and very sufficient! We went in July and the boat was really full; about half of the guests can sit under a sun screen, the rest can sit on top (or inside). The boat trip is not cheap, but children under 18 are half price, and than this is really a good price for a very nice day!
We were lucky enough to be on the last trip of the season, when the boat had fewer passengers. There was a fairly strong north wind blowing so we stayed on the south side, which was much calmer. We stopped at several beaches to swim in the crystal clear waters. Many of the beaches are only accessible by boat so this is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the best beaches that you would otherwise miss. A cold buffet lunch was provided and drinks were available throughout the day. A fabulous day out and great value for money.
A really great way to see the Island and its rocky coastline. We had really good weather so went around the whole island. Stopped at some lovely beaches and great swimming spots. Its a 5/6 hour tour, which is personally a bit long for me. 3 hours would of been enough, but that just me. A light lunch is provided. There is a bar on board and the prices are reasonable well for soft drinks anyhow I didn't buy alcohol. A good day out.
The best way to see the rocky island of Folegandros is the daily tour (10.30 - 18.00) with this boat. When the weather is not very windy, the boat makes the round tour with three stops for diving from the boat and two stops in beaches which you can visit only by boat or on foot. Diving in the transparent green-blue rocky sea was magnificent and those who did snorkeling really enjoyed ! The island is very small so the time between stops passed quickly. The lunch was hand-made and really tasty, while ouzo and fruits are served in the end.1. The tickets are sold only in Chora.2. The weather should be not very windy for the round tour, so make your plan.3. In Ag.Nikolaos beach there is a bar-restaurant where you can eat or drink something during the 45 minutes of the stop. A lot of people from our boat did it.4. Arrive at least 20 minutes before the departure in order to have a good seat.5. Take mask & snorkel, sun protection, camera with you !!
While it is truly packed the boat, it is a very nice and different way to visit the islands and beaches that are not accessible. Just climb up to the roof deck of the boat and take your sit there for the whole day...dive, swim and eat the nice food that they offer at lunch. Do not expect too much, but enjoy the day. We loved it.
The effect of a monopolistic company have settled for good on the diaplous boat tour and unfortunately it doesnt look like its going to change. Since noone else does the island tour - Our trip was packed with 48 persons inside the boat, we didnt have where to sit and ended up not being able to see most of the tour sights- the food offered was good but cold- the sights themselves were bad. Unfortunately the island has little to offer in terns of beaches- We were taken to small beaches and dumped there for one hour. We were unable to even sit on the beach. - if the weather is bad you are not offered the full roundtrip even if you have paid it. - its expensive at 28€ per person for less than 6 hrsWe feel that we lost a day in this otherwise beautiful island.
