We stayed in Batsi and decided to walk to this ancient site. We walked onto the main road out of Batsi and followed it to Ypsili and found that it was closed. Later, locals told us it had been closed for two years! There is a sign declaring 1.4 million (yes, million) euros has been spent on the site. They obviously spent a chunk of that on secure fencing so it is not possible to explore it yourself. All you can do it look through the bars at the map of the site. There are three ways to walk back. You can retrace your steps completely or walk down the road just before Ypsili and you will come to steps down to the sea, you will need to climb over a few rocks and then you will get to a lovely beach with a nice taverna. Be aware that the beach is narrow so that the sand is quite wet to sit on. When you have finished enjoying the beach walk up the road beside the coast, past a couple of hotels (including the Blue Bay, see review) and walk back into Batsi along the coast road, past another small beach. An alternative from Ypsili back to Batsi is to retrace your steps along the main road until you come across a white house on the right hand side of the road, directly on the opposite side of the road are some concrete steps, go down these but be aware that after a while they are quite rocky and eventually you come onto a road by the Blue Bay. Also be aware if you are going to do this route, proper shoes are advisable as it is rocky and the locals say there are snakes!
