Wonderful view and a nice restaurant for a beer or coffee. You can free of charge also go inside the old fortress for a look. The prices are not to stiff and the traditional food is delicious.
It's worth taking the hike up through Bakklandet to the old fortress. Nothing much in the way of displays or signage (unless you have a smartphone), but a wonderful view over Trondheim.
A very nice fortress with excellent views towards the old town and the Nidaros dome. A rely nice walk through an old part of the city with the typical small wooden houses.
Visited Kristainsten Fortress in winter time, while Trondhaim covered with snow. The site the fortress was spectacular. The town looked like from fairytale. Food in nearby restaurant was average but view from the fortress was worth half an hour walk from the city center.
This fort is in a hill on top of Trondheim with stunning views of the city and fiord. Can be reached from the Old Bridge after a short hike. The castle in the fort cannot be visited. There are some modern cannons displayed that do not match the place. It has an important role in repelling the invasion by the Swedish in the XVIII century.
The view from a hill to the harbour / city / river. If you like that kind of stuff. But that wasn't my cup of tea.
Free to enter, right by the old town, easily accessible, and a beautiful view of the city. The fort itself looks great as well. Definitely a must!
A short walk up the hill from the Old Town Bridge, this place is free to enter and fun to poke around in. The old 'keep' remains, as do the fortress walls and some cannon. There's a cafe (although we didn't use it) and the most amazing views of the city - we walked round the walls a couple of times.
This is a great destination for a walk outside the old town Trondheim. You get a wonderful view of the town, the surrounding hills, the river and the fjord. There is a restaurant inside the fortress walls that is said to be very good (we didn't go -- check out its reviews before you do). I would have rated this attraction excellent if there had been any obvious descriptions of the history of the fortress. There are few or no signs to tell you what you are seeing.
This fort has displays which explain the history of the region with dioramas and artifacts. It does not take long to visit and offers a great view of the city. The walk down was interesting and lovely and puts you at the old bridge area. Worth a look. It is free.
Nice fortress, with a nice walk (about 15-20 minutes from city center) to get there. The view in a sunny day is great, you can see all Trondheim as well as the fjord. I reccomend it.
A simple 10-15 minute walk up from the water front through lovely forest/gardens brings one to the castle/fort. No admission charge and a superb view over Trondheim. Clearly the fort has history going back to 1600. A lovely walk on a summers day or evening and surprisingly very little in the way of crowds. Well worth the walk and a great break from the city/shops.The tea shop/cafe is also very good... even for a meal.
Such a wonderful site. Easy access from the town and lovely grassed areas to picnic. ( Although a few wasps around.) Fantastic views of the city and a great place to watch the sunset. The museum there is small, but the displays are presented well and very informative. And was for FREE
Up the hill of the old city you can climb to the fortress and see nice views. Climbing is not difficult and can see the old cannons which used to protect Trondheim from invadors.
Also a place of interrest for tourists. Its possible to enter the gates without paying any fee to have a look at the area and see the view over central Trondheim. Its not worth paying to go inside the fortress. Around the fortress its a huge area for people to relax, play, be social.
