old town hall (stara radnice)

The history of Brno is interesting inside out, whatever you choose you will be pleased. Same with the Old Town Hall, where you will see the crocodile hanging from the ceiling... read the story ! :)

Dating from the early thirteenth-century. A tourist office was outside but the Town Hall not open. They had a crocodile hanging in entrance – protective DRAGON!

Great building. Very friendly people at the information desk. The famous Brno dragon smells a little suspiciously - I thought it was a plastic model, but...

We were there after hours so had limited access. Interesting architecture. Make time to visit the area.

Worth a visit, but there wasn't a ton to see. Glad I stopped by, but don't strain yourself to get there.

The old town hall houses a number of small but interesting exhibits. This has a gothic portal and a number of turrets built above it. The middle one was deliberately built leaning over to symbolise the crookedness of the person who had hired the builder, but then would not pay for the work. Below the portal was a replica model of the Brno Dragon that had terrorised the towns' waterways years ago. It was in fact a crocodile but no one had seen a crocodile back then. There was also a wheel symbolising the Legend of the Wheel, where a guy made a bet to chop down a tree, make a wheel from it, and roll it forty-five kilometres to Brno in twelve hours. It was deemed impossible without the assistance of the devil, and although he won the bet he died in poverty. Each floor inside the tower had various Czech only displays of the tower and Brno. We passed the clock mechanism. There were 179 steps up to the top where we had views in all directions over the city. This gave us a view of the Parnassus fountain nearby which was quite intricate but we were unable to explore it more closely because the town square was under renovation.

There is an alligator hanging from the ceiling in the entrance, and the building is nice. There also is the information center.

You just have to see the Brno Dragon while you are in Brno, especially if you are from Florida, as I am. And the view from the tower is worth the climb. But you can see the whole thing in 30-45 minutes.

going up is a bit scary. on the way up there are some exhibitions about brno history. the view from the top is nice.

The Old Town Hall with its tower, bent Gothic decoration on the entrance and random crocodile suspended from the roof is a must when visiting Brno. Go up the tower and explore the courtyard. Fascinating.Visited in sep 2011.

Very nice mason's work above the entrance gate with a crooked part; a story goes the craftsman wasn't paid enough thus he spoiled his masterpiece on purpose. The Brno impressive "dragon" hanging in the corridor (crocodile in fact). There is an information centre in that corridor. Nice tower to climb for a view. But all that isncompletely spoiled for me by facing that concrete monstrosity of a shopping building, preventing a view from the old town hall to the historical vegetable market. It stays a secret to me why the communist era monstrosity hasn't been knocked down yet.

The old town hall is the place of legends in Brno - Brno dragon, broken wheel and crooked turrets, so submerge into local legends. The interior generally offers smaller exhibitions and as everyone says, go up the tower!

Saw this spot off the town square at nit when the front was lit. You can see the bent spire with the other straight ones. Story is the builder was to be paid but was jiped so he made one othe spires crooked.

There is a really nice view from top of tower, but for the rest everything is in Czech no translation.

Well worth going up the tower for the view & clock mechanism. You can see the Brno combination of old town and industrial bits. There's a little museum.
