This is something unique all over the world - carst abyss with the underground river - you can take a boat.See the video- it´s commented in the Czech language. Enjoy it! Macocha Abyss is about 40 km north of Brno http://www.ceskatelevize.cz/ivysilani/10582479956-klenoty-nasi-krajiny/413235100151008-moravsky-kras
Abyss and its surroundings is a very interesting place, beautiful nature and of course Punkva caves. Definitely worth seeing.
The view on Macocha Abyss is wonderful, especially the small pond in the abyss. A must see, if you are near Punkva.
It's amazing! The Moravian Karst as a whole is the best thing the Czech Republic has to offer (yes, better than the beer) and the Macocha Abyss (seen from above but also from below, from underground river in Punkva cave) is a totally natural wonder.
This trip was so much fun, my friends & I enjoyed the caves, the boat ride and all the natural beauty! Just don't forget to take a sweater as it gets cool in the caves which was great after the hot August day. After or before the caves tour you can enjoy refreshment in little touristic village with restaurants and small shops.
The views from the abyss and stunning if you don't mind looking down down downTook the cave tour and was so pleased. Incredible limestone formations, the boat ride was fun, so don't miss the Punkva Caves. So fun to walk through the dark and then, sunlight, it felt a bit like Indiana Jones
When you catch nice weather, it is a good place for trip with your friends or family. Abyss is good, i ve heard it is a place for suiciders, i cannot imagine! How scary!
This is a sight worth seeing. We were in the punkva caves and those were pretty amazing too. But then we reached the end of the tunnel and suddenly emerged into the light. The abyss is huge and really makes u feel teeny tiny. With the trees and the greenery and water, its really a moving experience. Once in a lifetime experience for us. Also do take the cable car to the top once u are done with the punkva cave tour. The view from the top looking down into the abyss is really scary. Very vertigo inducing and fun. Overall a super experience in the midst of nature.
One can view Macocha from three places: from lower bridge, upper bridge and from its very bottom. I recomment to try all three viewpoints in one day, they will provide you different perspectives in order to appreciate how deep it really is. Whereas both bridges are accessible from marked tourist path free of charge, you have to pay entrance fee to Punkva caves in order to see the bottom.
Shame it was raining all day when we went here. But it's still awesome to see. Do yourself a favour and book a tour with Helena as per link below. She is a great guide and will take you on full day tour of this and other attractions. www.brnoguide.webs.com
Moravian Karst is a wonderful place and the abyss in one of its best. It is very impressive place located in a beautiful nature. You can go by cable car or small train, walk for hours in the woods, see the ruins of Blansek castle. It is all definitely worth seeing. Be sure to make a reservation in advance when you plan to visit the Punkevni caves!
Really! Someone says The world championship for the weakest golf players is held here ;-) Nice piece of nature!
Liked, getting out of the city and enjoying the scenery, however there was very little English so i feel like i missed a lot.
About half an hour north of Brno near Blansko is this extensive cave system. The best way to enjoy Macocha Abyss is from the Punkva Caves tour. Tickets are purchased from the information centre next to the car park. You access the cave either by foot or road train which can be a rough and bumpy ride. It is about 2 kilometres from the car park to the caves.Tours are very popular and operate regularly so be sure to match up your ticket time with the tour. The tour features numerous outstanding rock features although our guide had some trouble at the beginning keeping the lights on. When you are underground with a bunch of screaming school kids it is interesting. The Front Dome contained the stunning Mirror Lake which perfectly reflected the cave. The Reichenbach Dome contained flood markers showing where the water level had risen to during major floods. The Back Dome featured a number of unique formations including the Eternal Lovers. After this you arrive at the bottom of the abyss which offers a Jurassic view up to the sky. The tour finishes off with a meandering boat tour and one final chamber. Be warned that the boat travels very close to the rock walls so watch your head as any guidance is only in Czech. From here we took a cable car up to the top of the abyss. Alas it was an area overrun by cheap tourist stores and the view from the top was limited. The only other way to get a view back down to the caves was by a winding and steep path.Overall an interesting cave visit although for foreign visitors you get an English pamphlet which is great to read in a cave....
We took the tour of the Punkevni Jeskyne (Punkva cave) which includes a tour of the Punkva cave, then Macocha Abyss and at the end an underground bout ride. The tour is in Czech. From the information office, it's recommended to the take the train both ways to the cave entrance and back. After the tour you may take a cable car to the top of the mountain (we haven't). Luckily, we booked in advance (by email). The information office's address where you can buy tickets for the tour, for the train and for the cable car is: Skalni Mlyn 96 Blansko (GPS: N 49.3636578, E 16.7088797).If you are hungry, you may go to a near by restaurnat in Blansko, named Pizzerie Terrazza.
