This zoo is HUGE, and extremely cheap given the number of animals you can see. The habitats are spacious and clean, particularly for the bears and wolves, which is nice to see, and the information on display is adequate. We didn't miss out on seeing a single animal, and the reptile room is awesome. I would say this zoo is one of the best things about Pilsen, go and check it out whether you have kids or not. It's great.
Animals: The ZOO is divided according to geographical areas, so you can see animals living together (i.e. in North America) as they usually do. The species are usually kept in separate cages or behindseparate fences but some of them are also placed in shared pavilions together (i.e. tortoises and rodents). Some animals (lemurs) were even outside, so you could see them directly, without any barriers. The ZOO is placed on the slope, so you go uphill and then downhill. On the top of the hill, there is Dinopark (area devoted to dinosaurs)well equipped for kids: - "interactive educational point" where you answer some quiz questions about siberian tigers - experience points (you can touch antlers)- graved wooden animals (kids can climb on them)- meeting some animals (showing trained owls)restaurants: It is possible to have something to eat or drink in several restaurants.parking:The parking was not a problem but if you are afraid of no free space, you can still go by bus as well. price: average
Dislikes: food service, even if you climb up the hill to an old farm "restaurant" all you can get is defrosted anf fried food of low quality.Likes: just great, quite good choice of animals, althougth they do not have elephants. Right now theres a rhino baby girl, wondefull. Kids love the spot towers, the paddocks are in the modern style with the feeling you are in. Even adults can enjoy this like 2 hours walk.
It is quite an experience to visit this zoo! We have seen so many animals, but we were wondering about safety. A lot of the gates look, well... flimsy. I am not an expert, but I do believe that an escape is possible for some of the animals. The upside is of course, that you get to see the animals close by. Still not sure if it is safe enough, but oh boy, did I enjoy this! Most amazing, the rhino's! Mother rhino had a baby, Marusha and you can see them really close. Would have loved some signs in english or german, but the animals make up for that!
My family of 5 really enjoy our day at the zoo. Its gorgeous! Some of the habitats were amazing! I have never seen so many bears in one place and wow they had an amazing home! There are also some great views of the city from the zoo. It was also very clean. I highly recommend!
If you want to enjoy a nice afternoon go there. A lot of animals, etc. They should clean better the area of the "little monkeys" (I don't know exactly what they are) and give them more freedom. But the place is really nice.
Soon after I had entered the Zoo rain poured down like cats and dogs, as this would last for a whole day I had opted to head for the hotel again, leaving me without much impression of how much this Zoo actially has have to offer. What I had found out was that this particular Zoo was founded in 1926 (located in urban part Lochotín), ihas a surface of 21 ha., has approximately 6000 animals of 1100 different species of which 23 species in a breeding programme for European conservation. The Botanical Garden was subsequently added in 1957 and which remained independent until 1981.
This zoo is my favourite and we visit it often. Plenty of animals, amazing monkeys, there is also typical czech old house with freshly brewed pilsener beer. If you wanna relax, visit zoo Plzen!
Plzen is definitely worth visiting. And when you have already enjoyed the city centre and all the colourful neat buildings that are scattered everywhere it is a must to stop at the Plaza Mall to try second floor's ice-cream and then continue to the zoo. (It's 10-15 minute walk, using short-cut paths through the park). The zoo is very good, indeed. It can't be compared to Stuttgart or Dortmund Zoos which are absolutely adorable, but it is a wonderful way to end the day. The zoo is fairly big, full of vegetation and the tigers and lions are big and playful. However, if it is too hot, you may not be able to see some of the other animals. The Dino park could be disappointing for those expecting something impressive, however my boyfriend and I really enjoyed a quick circle round and a short 3D children's film, just for the sake of escaping for some time from the heat outside. Having in mind that Plzen is not a big city, I would say that it's zoo is fantastic and it's entrance fee is justifiable.
The zoo was great, there are alot of animals and you a very close to them and get to see them up close and personal! We really enjoyed our leisurely stroll through the zoo and all the animals we came across were fantastic. We happened to be there during feeding time and got to watch most of the animals be fed. We also went into the DinoPark which is connected with the zoo. It is a great place for the younger kids to see what the dinos were like. Good trip overall
We visited last weekend and it was really nice. They have lot of animals and different themes, part of it is on a hill with really nice views of the city. They have bunch of places for food and beer and overall it was a very enjoyable way to spend a few hours on a sunny day.
Plzen is not a particularly large town, so I was pleasantly surprised to find this decent zoo. As you will be frequently reminded, it has the most animal species of all Czech zoos.Even if you don't spend too long studying the animals, it should take a couple of hours to walk around all the enclosures, and there are some creatures that will keep your attention for a while! It certainly is a nice change of pace from the more historical attractions that are typically on offer in the town. The only downside is that there isn't much English signage around the zoo. You can even follow the Zoo on Facebook, if you would like to see photos of some of the animals before visiting.
sehr grosszügig angelegt, vielseitiges Angebot und sehr gepflegten Gehegen. Preis -Leistung einfach top
ZOO Plzeň jsem navštívila po mnoha letech a byla jsem velice překvapena. Přibylo mnoho zvířat, krásných pavilonů, skleníky a rovněž je zpřístupněné "podzemí" ve skále, kde byl za války bunkr. Potěšil i venkovský statek, kde městské děti mohou zažít kousek vesnice. Strávili jsme tu celý den, dobře se najedli v resturaci a moc nás to bavilo.
